the avast 4.6 (ashwebsv.exe) is still downloading something, it already downloaded about 60MB, what is this useless traffic for?
ashwebsv.exe is the WebShield Provider, it doesn’t download anything.
- Do you have any browser running?
- Are you using the Netlimiter application?
- Can you use the TcpView utility http://www.sysinternals.com/ntw2k/source/tcpview.shtml to identify to which server it is connected?

yes I can see this download via net limiter.
Expand the Netlimiter’s [ + ] button next to ashWebSv.exe and tell us what is says… or post a screenshot.

now I can see, it appears to be dowloading, only when I am downloading something else. Never did before. There will be no slow down due to this i hope
one more thing. download speed of a file downloaded with avast on =15kB/s, when turned off, 30kB/s (full speed). Maybe I turned on something I didnt have to, I have to check it.
I have the same problem with ashwebsv.exe. NetLimiter shows my current download and upload rates and informs me that ashwebsv.exe downloads something from various IPs. Sometimes it uses my full bandwidth so my connection becomes very poor. It always starts when I try to download something, even when I stop downloading ashwebsv.exe downloads it “virtually” to the end and lose my download limit

Guys you should realize that all HTTP traffic is routed thru ashWebSv.exe (the avast Web Shield).
It’s perfectly normal if ashWebSv is reported as taking bandwidth!
But I don’t think that’s not what Michal was refering to - he said ashWebSv.exe was downloading data even if no browser (or other http client) is running (which is not normal).

I have the same, small description of all process for better understanding:
- Restart Windows
- Open IE only and starting download (eg. file with size 10 MB), ashWebSv.exe shows download too
- Cancel of downloading after finishing of 2 MB, closing IE, ashWebSv.exe still downloads something from IP connected with downloaded file, NetLimiter shows that it downloads ~10 MB despite the fact I canceled the download earlier!
sorry, asi sem se spatne vyjadril, vlastne sem na to s tim prohlizecem ani neodpovedel. kdyz jsem vse vypl vcetne prohlizece s timto forem (proto ten download zhruba 5kB) tak opravdu zmizel download. Ale s tim kopirovanim je to fakt divny, kdyz vypnu avast kopcim 30kB (udaj getrightu) a pri zapnutym avastu s tezi par kilobajt, zbytek dle netlimiteru spolkne ten ashwebsv.exe.
gargul, this is definitely not how it behaves here. It seems like an (unwanted) effect of NetLimiter… ???
I’ll talk to the NetLimiter authors about this, I know them pretty well.

Michal, as I said, it’s quite normal that ashWebSv is taking ALL HTTP bandwidth (wget really only communicates with ashWebSv on localhost, not with the Internet - which can be verified e.g. by a firewall). Anyway maybe we could move to the Czech forum ( http://forum.asw.cz), there’s a similar thread over there.
