What Does This Mean?

I’m totally confused and could use some help/advice. I just downloaded the latest version of the Avast free home edition anti-virus program, then ran a quick scan. It reported that I didn’t have any infected files. However, when I viewed the logs (if that’s what they’re called - I’m not too computer savvy), the log called “file system shield” reported that they were 705 infected files, the “IM shield” reported 5, and the “Network shield” reported 180. I also ran MBAM’s scan, which also reported that there weren’t any infected files. I don’t know if I really have any infected files or not. ??? Could the so-called “infected files” really be legit, or am I possibly receiving a false positive? Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated, but please bear in mind that I don’t understand a lot of technical stuff and you may have to bear with me if I sound too ignorant when trying to explain something to me.

Another question: I noticed that when I was on the website in which I downloaded the anti-virus program, there was an option to download another program called CyberDefender that will run a scan to also help detect viruses, malware, etc. Does anyone know of this program and if it’s safe to use? Is it worth downloading?

Thanks!

From which web site did you download avast?

I went directly to the Avast website and clicked on the download button, which (I believe) directed me to CNET were the download was installed.

I re-traced the downloading process I had taken, (Which was exactly the same as yours & also lead me to CNet) but didn’t see anything for about or for this CyberDefender. It probably was an add, which definitely wouldn’t be smart to download.

I’m not the most computer-savvy person either. ::slight_smile: But if I was to guess, I would run a full system scan to double-check. If nothing comes up, your probably fine and it was a false alarm.

even if it isn’t a false positive,i think you shouldn’t be worrying that much, because all infected files are stored in a “chest”.A “chest” is where the Avast stores the infected files, and doesn’t let them harm your computer.
