I’m doing a thorough scan (manually) on a free home version of avast. I just downloaded avast and this is my first thorough scan. I keep getting these virus alerts and when I try to put them in the chest, they come back up a second later. When I try to delete it, I get this popup that says something like ‘it’s being used by another processor.’ What am I supposed to do? Attached is the popup that keeps coming up.
Access denied means, generally, that the file is in use by another process (program) and cannot be repaired/cleaned/moved/handled by avast!
Are you using Windows XP?
Can you schedule a boot-time scanning?
Start avast! > Right click the skin > Schedule a boot-time scanning.
Select for scanning archives.
Boot.
If infected files are found, it’s safer to send them to Chest instead of deleting them.
This way you can further analysis them.
Or just run:
C:\Program Files\ALWIL Software\Avast4\sched.exe /A:*
The report file is created automatically in \Data\Report\aswBoot.txt
I’m running Windows XP (here at work) but when I send this virus/adware to the chest it doesn’t go. The virus/adware pops right back up and keeps doing this until I click the ‘no action’ (or something like that) button. When I try and delete it I get that popup as mentioned above.
Not too sure, because the full path and file name were not indicated, but this looks like a likely cause.

See if it’s in “add/remove programs”, and try removing it that way.
In your second post, (above) was that result you describe by using a boot time scan as recommended? Do you have admin rights on the computer at work, or is it a part of a network? If the latter, you need to contact your system admin.
PS to my last, just to be sure.
You should be aware that when doing a thorough scan, the chances of a false positive are increased.
This is one reason it is always important to quarantine and NOT delete files. Unless you are 100% certain the file is malware.
So the link I posted may be valid for your situation, (fairly likely, I think, but it’s only opinion), or not.
More investigation is needed, regarding the actual file found, its full name and where it is.
Newdotnet can be a real pig as it gets integrated into you internet connections and when removed it can stuff up your ability to connect.
Lost Internet Connection - To recover you internet connection, try downloading and running WinsockXPfix: http://www.snapfiles.com/get/winsockxpfix.html

No needs to do all of this.
For XP SP2, try Windows Start button, Run - type ‘netsh winsock reset’ without the quotes - this may be enough to fix the issue.
Better to have this available just in case.
Cueball, did you run avast at boot time as I’ve posted before?
If you’re seeing the message and can’t you manage the infection, use the boot time scanning…
