On their secure https site, I get no such warning.
I do not get this warning on any other websites (at least not very often)
Avast Scan, Malwarebytes scan show no infections on my computer, so I thought it must be the website.
I called bb&t to warn them that they had malware on their website…and they told me no…the problem is on my computer.
So what does this “Threat has been detected” refer to …my computer or the website I am trying to visit?
If it means my computer and Avast and MWB can’t find it…what is the next best thing to try?
Thanks Ddm5! I appreciate the help with protocol. Any chance you have an answer to my question about what “Threat has been detected” refers to? I’m a little worried it means my computer since i pay bills online etc.
It refers to, something dodgy has been detected on that webpage and it’s detected malware on that page, probably a website infection anything from frame injectors to Java script and it’s blocked you from accessing that page, what you could do is head on over to www.virustotal.com and scan the URL with the multitude of virus scanners they have and you’ll get an answer.
URL scanning by VT is unreliable as it isn’t a live scan but a referral to database entries, many time avast detects and nothing is detected on a VT URL scan.
The URL:MAL part of the avast alert means it is on avast’s malicious sites list, something avast doesn’t like about that domain or IP address.
I checked it on virustotal about the same time and came up clean too. Maybe because it is Malware instead of a virus? My biggest worry was that there was something lurking in the shadows of my computer so I am relieved to know “threat detected” means the website I am trying to visit and not my computer.
I use Explorer 9 and still get it when I checked just a few seconds ago…I will try adding specificclick to my hosts file and see if that makes a difference.
