Thursday I will install windows again. Somehow it’s boot up time when you get that second screen with the welcome has gone from 2 seconds to half a minute, never seen that before in all the years.
In this light, when deciding on which antivirus to use, what exactly does avast do at boot time? I like avast because on my system it has detected more than other scanners did, and I have read several times that it’s rather efficient. Being so called power user I like that.
If I don’t want to give any resources to protection and disable the On Acces Scanners, there is only the boot time tasks?
And how much is this? It scans for rootkits, although there is an option to disable it.
Can someone give an indication?
The rootkit scanning is performed 8 minutes after boot/logon, so, it isn’t it.
Which other security programs are installed? Which firewall? Which programs are automatically started with Windows?
There are three stages in boot. The first is when you get that animation going back and forth, I thought this is the part of hardware detection. Then you get a stage with just a black screen, then the last stage is with the blue screen that says welcome and loading settings.
That last stage has been 2 or 3 seconds or so for as long as I can remember for years on many different installs, now is is almost a minute.
Likewise shutting down is taking longer.
