Just get to the office, turned on my laptop, and find that my resident protection’s not working.

When I right click on the icon, I can see the “Pause Provider” “Resume Provider” and “Stop Provider” are all disabled. When I left click the icon, I got the RPC error message.

avast: The AAVM subsystem detected a RPC error.

I’m using WinXP SP2, avast Home Edition 4.5.546, vps 449-0

Please use the search function on this board. Many other threads are dealing with it.

Thanks Eddy. Seems my problem is not that complicated as discussed in the previous posts. I simply restarted the system and the problem disappeared. Will remember to search before I post any questions.

Sunnyyen,

Do you have any other antivirus installed in your computer?
Did you have in the past? Which one?
RPC error is generally related to other antivirus present or, at least, firewall blocking. Do you use a firewall? Which one?

Anyway, RPC error is most likely correct by this procedure:
Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove programs > avast! antivirus > Remove
Then choose Repair function in the pop up window (Repair).

RPC (Remote Procedure Call) is a Windows must have running service 8)
