What is botnet? Is it different from virus,malware? Does avast removes those?

Hi,
There are too much technical terms that convey the same thing. is botnet differs from malware, virus and url attacks, Does avast free antivirus remove those? which scan contains the removal of these. I am using avast for long time.

Hi, Would you be kind to elaborate. I want specific about your free av on botnet. I knew about excellent network scan and i always scan whenever i found suspicious popup or alert pop ups. I heard that botnet, does the job indirectly without having anything with network activity. Please elaborate on botnet removal of avast antivirus.
