What is failed (0x000004C7??

Hello all. First time at this forum.
Have been using the latest version of Avast Free/home version for the past month with no problems. I love the auto updates and speed which it runs. Today, I was unable to update one file called jollyroger.vpu. Following are the texts of the error messages:

06.06.2004 16:34:53 internet tried 8 servers to get file ‘jollyroger.vpu’, but failed (0x000004C7

06.06.2004 16:34:53 package Tried to download jollyroger.vpu but failed with error 0x000004C7

I have no idea as to the next step to take. ???
Any ideas???

Hello, wellcome!
Mabye you have a firewall that is denning access to Internet but, can you go to Control Panel > Add/Remove programs applet > avast antivirus > choose Change/Remove and then the ‘Repair’ function… Will it correct your problem?

Thanks Technical. I have all gates open in Zone Alarm relating to Avast (3). I check for updates and it reports that the program is up todate, and then an Program Update screen shows up and tells me 0% downloaded and 0% Installed. Strange behaviour…?? ::slight_smile:

Just a little bit more of patience…
Can you disable ZA for a while? Will it work?

You must have avast services running too. There are too, one related to aswUpdSv and other to ashServ. Do you have them automatically running?

Do you use a proxy filter?

Yes those two services are up and running and are on automatic load. No, I don’t run a proxy service. I use Zone Alarm 5.0 and as stated, all gates are open for Avast. After my last post, I noticed an advice notice that the update was completed in 5 minutes and 49 seconds. Yet I get the failed jollyroger update failed. Puzzling…

Everything seems to be related to the following:

  1. A firewall trouble (uninstall it to see what happens)
  2. Or, download the entire setup file and upgrade
  3. Are you using the current Beta setup of avast (4.1.404) or not (4.1.396)?

Thanks for the response  I worked on the problem most of last night and decided that my problem was probably based in Zone Alarm 5.0. It worked very well in the first week or so of using it, and then the problems started. I was getting blank internet pages, slow loads and so on. I took out ZA 5 pro and replaced with ZA 4.5. It seems to have resolved the problem. Thank you all for your responses. ;D

Wellcome back putermaven any time you need…
For me the version 5.0 of ZA is working perfectly but, you know, computer is not a deterministic world :stuck_out_tongue:
Other users of version 5.0 get other troubles. ZA was sold (as I understood) to McAfee and Norton so, maybe, avast won’t be so easy with the new versions
