Suddenly my cpu useage was stuck above 99% with AvastSvc.exe. Uninstalled with Avast utility, I then tried to reinstall, no joy, kept getting error that "source file coulod not be read (from CNET, AVAST, File Hippo, etc.) and also “Try downloading to another location” message in separate popup. Gave up and used restore point set before uninstall. Yea! I got Avast back…WTH???.. Now suddenly it is the trial version of Avast Pro and demands trial activation. I don’t want trial, I want my old free version back. Download and reinstall? No same error messages about source file and download destination. I am stumped. I cannot uninstall and do a fresh install because the file will not download, the update changed me to Pro Trial. I cannot even install my version from last June and try to upgrade because it says :No we will download the newer version which CANNOT BE DOWNLOADED. ??? SO where is the problem? WHere can I find a way to download to a new location, how can I get my free version back and the trial to go away?
:o
- Download avast! Free Antivirus: http://files.avast.com/iavs5x/avast_free_antivirus_setup.exe
- Follow instructions: http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility (Run this tool for all prior installed avast! versions…!!)
- Reinstall avast! with the downloaded installer from point 1.
- Reboot.
Okay, got rid of old installs, did new install, registered, rebooted. Now avastsetup is continuously present and using 96%+ of cpu. Icon spins occasionally, but cpu usage is constantly maxed.
- OS…?? (32/64 Bit…? - which SP…?)
- Other security related software installed…??
- Which AV did you use before avast!..??
Win 7 Home Premium, 64 bit, all updates current. Use Comodo Firewall (only) and have been using Avast since it began. Things are getting weird. I tried terminating the AvastSetup connections and AvastSvc (which had been low) immediately went to max again. Never had conflict problems in past (using the combo for 8 years). I have had strange problems with Firefox since last upgrade to 20.0.1 (about 4 days ago), but don’t see how this would be causing the Avast problem. AHHH ^%@$$#^&***, Checked as I was typing this, now the maxed cpu usage is shown as being svchost.
Does it work without Comodo…??
Comodo FW has release another version relating the problem with their firewall and memory leak, make sure you download the latest Comodo FW version and this should solve your problem.
What’s new in 6.1.276867.2813:
