What new in this version? Just curious?
What I have noticed is that ashMail has changed and avast.setup. My firewall told me so.
Minor changes. Add Finland Language.

I just installed 4.5.505 (upgrade from 4.1)
and found that "network shield’’ was missing ,
has it been taken off? or has something gone wrong with
the installation. :o
this was available on a earlier version i had installed
on another computer. ???
Go to the Control Panel / Add/Remove Programs / avast! Antivirus / Change/Remove / Change - and check the list of installed modules. Is “Network Shield” checked?
If it is, please check avast! Log viewer if there were any errors.
Yep it was not checked, i ticked the box and its working now

lol, im happy this was mentioned actulary, it wasn’t there on mine either, i checked the box and it now installed, could this be a possible bug alwil?
BTW, i also noticed that “The bat” was unchecked, what is this, is it inportant to me?.

I think not, it’s a new provider and the user must check to use it. It’s not the default. Just this. Not a bug.
The Bat is a plugin for the email client with the same name (The Bat). Do you use the program ‘The Bat’? If not, you does not have to install the plugin either 8)

I’ve noticed speed of Avast 4.5 Beta.
Avast 4.1 used to slow down my laptop so bad (Pentium-M 1.3 GHz, 256 MB of RAM) but I’m very surprised it seems that Avast 4.5 beta DOES NOT slow anything down as ever, don’t know why. Did Alwil team improve any speed of Avast?
This is a general wish of all antivirus company…
To be honest, it will depend on which programs are you running in background, your hardware and the sensitivity level of on-access scanning.
But, most important is that your system is better now… 8)
Maybe, I’m not being fair with the programmers and they really improve a lot the protection of avast without taking much resources ;D
I think it’s really caused by something else… I’m not aware of any significant changes to avast! 4.5 concernig the speed.
I’ve done some speedups in packers-related code (i.e. only used when scanning of archives is turned on) - but I don’t think it would make any noticeable difference (you know, when you save one microsecond in a function that takes 10 milliseconds, it won’t help much ;)). Besides, there are new packers in avast! 4.5 which would slow it down a little again…
