When exiting a program to exit Windows I sometimes get this message and I have to use Task Manager to “End Program” in order to close Windows. What is it?
I would have to ask the same question, what is RNotificationServicePollerWnd, but more importantly is that the program that has to be ended ?
Check out the hits in this google search, http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=RNotificationServicePollerWnd.
Some of them seem to indicate it being part of McAfee Internet Security.
So do you have that on your system ?
To David - I’ve already checked out the Google inquiry you mentioned and it is almost, if not, the identical problem. My system is a self built two years ago, with Win2000Pro OS. I hate Microsofty Bugs & IE, use Firefox as browser. This is more of a nuisance than a real “bug” problem, but none the less, it’s not normal. I just noticed it several days ago. Thanx. JM
The reason I mentioned McAfee was if you had at any point had it installed ?
If so it might be worth running this tool to ensure all remnants are gone - McAfee has an uninstall tool that you could run to ensure any possible remnants are removed.

David - I haven’t used McAfee for quite a few years. It’s never been on my present machine. I only use AVAST. More about the problem. Several days ago I was doing “whatever” on my computer, just keystroking away for whatever it was, and all of a sudden my screen fluttered and I get a file on my Desktop, “BU Documents”. I can’t recall if one of my fingers hit a “key button” by mistake or what. It is a CL4 “file type”. I don’t know what program uses a “CL4” filetype. It could be Microsoft for all I know. It seems to be a log (in Notepad) of all the contents (files) in my “Documents” folder, and several other “Shortcut to” folders I’ve created over time. (I’ve got 13 of these). Some are “programs” and others are just “files”. It is a humongously long file, full of jibberish (computer symbols and text). Just my slowly scrolling thru it, it appears to be a “back up” of sorts of all these “folders” and their contents.
One of the folders is nothing but GIFF images. Just a while ago I was going to email a friend of mine, and insert one of these GIFF images of Xmas into the email body, and the image I selected was not “selected”, it was another GIFF image from the same folder. I had never seen that happen before. Pick one file and you get another one. Wrong…
I’ve thought about deleteing this GIFF folder and recreate it. I’ve got it on back-up so nothing would be lost, or next to nothing anyway. I hate to do that, because it doesn’t tell me what exactly happened, or what my problem is or what created it. I hate to “fix” something that’s not broken. As far as that goes I really don’t know if anything else was affected or not. The files in these folders are of different “file types”, i.e. DOC, XLS… Thanks again. JM Oh, I just ran my AVAST again a few hours ago, nothing found.
David - I just now ran the McAfee VSCleanup tool, and it came up with a gazillion “does not exist” entries, so I’m assuming that all if fine as far as McAfee quirks goes. JM
Well that is good news no McAfee.
The .cl4 file type frpm my friend google (http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=.cl4+file+type) is Easy CD Creator Ver 4 Layout File, see this hit,
http://filext.com/file-extension/CL4.
So does that ring any bells ?
Perhaps you also have a backup program at work also, perhaps a link to the ‘BU’ mentioned, that however is speculation on my part.
David - I just ran your cl4 file type checker or whatever kind of checker it is. It went ten billion miles per hour and I assume it checked my registry for any bugs, or wherever it looked at. No response was visibly seen/read by me. There was some sort of monitor activity but it went so fast it was impossible to determine if it pertained to my problem or not. I’m assuming that the registry is fine and or whatever it checked is fine. It didn’t give me any feedback as to what it did. All I know is what the site mentioned about the checker.
I do not use “Back up” programs. I manually back up to CD’s and a flash drive. The less “stuff” I have on my computer the better it is, is my belief. Windows in itself seems to be corrupt enough for me. Another thing that make this so frustrating is it is not persistent. It seems to happen whenever IT wants to, usually and only when I shut down for the night. My having Win2K my shutdown procedure is START>SHUTDOWN or RESTART. It is in this process that “occasionally” I get the “RNotificationServicePollerWnd” thing on screen and I have to use CNTL ALT DELETE to get the Task Manager to END the Process to shut down.
I don’t seem to have any CD problems. I don’t use it very often, maybe every two or three days for some of my backups. It is a Samsung CD-RW.
There was no intention to have you run any cl4 file checker, just to show what that file type is. Armed with the knowledge of what it is then do you have Easy CD Creator as that is what would be responsible for the cl4 files.
If you don’t you will have to check the other hits on the google search to see if there is another program that generates this file type.
The problem is I have been unable to find anything useful on RNotificationServicePollerWnd, so I tried modifying the google search, http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=win+2000+RNotificationServicePollerWnd+error, that greatly narrows the hits but I don’t know if you will find anything worthwhile in that either.
I don’t have Easy CD Creator. I use Ahead software, Nero5 for my CD installation and CD functions. Never had a problem with it. I can’t find any programs that use the CL4 file types, although I know there are some that do, and I think it is mainly in the guts of computing, such as system related files. Too deep for my brain, nor do I want to know. I just want to be a “user” of a computer, not the programmer or a systems engineer.
I think I’m just going to live with it until it “breaks” something else. I can still do everything I do with my computer, it’s just this bothersome ol shutdown thing that’s quirky. The more incidents I have like this one, the closer I am at switching to Linux. I have downloaded their UBUNTU CD and installed it onto my computer, but it won’t run my AutoCad 3D Modeling software that I use for my work. That’s the biggest thing that keeps me from totally switching.
I’m just going to coast along with it, it’s not a “stopper”, just a “quirk”. I’ve got better things to do with my time. I appreciate all you have done for me with this thing, and thank you very much for your time. I will continue to periodically check back to this forum to see if any earth shattering breakthroughs are found on this matter. Till then, keep up your good work. Thanks, John Martin
Sorry I’m out of ideas on what this might be a pain, but as you say not a show stopper.
I had thought this was due to some spyware called FAZE A, an identity theft application, but having deleted it, it has returned after 3 weeks, it may stll be worthwhile looking for.
