Hi,
I was helping a user on another site and when I looked at the crash dump files Avast was being pegged as the likely cause. I asked the user to run the uninstall and clean utilities from this site, however, according to the user it did not remove aswhwid.sys

Can someone please advise me as what is the function of that driver?

File Description: avast! HWID
File Version: 9.0.2018.361

Regards.

That is Hardware Identifier Service

Cheers mate.

Do you know if there is a new version?

That appears to be the latest version. It is also interesting that you used the Avast clean uninstaller and it is still resident; however, that doesn’t surprise me because I can’t see where it would do any harm if left behind. In any event, since you have not clearly identified the specific issue and and have not provided some specific details, there isn’t much more that can be done at this point so good luck to you.

plsrepli

That should have been removed using the clean tool. Any piece left over memory resident is a problem, when your using the clean tool, to diagnose an issue.

There is a special 2014 clean tool to enable a downgrade to Endpoint. I wonder if that leaves it also.

Did you do an un-install prior to the clean tool run in safe mode?

Did you personally checked if the user did so and how/with what exactly?

Have you tried using RejZor’s “avast cleanup tool”?
You can download it from here. You will need to scroll down to the bottom of the page.
RejZor’s cleanup tool is extremely safe and will remove remnants of an avast uninstall.
I have the latest one saved on my HDD. 8)

That should have been removed using the clean tool.

In a perfect world that may be true; however, the Avast clean uninstaller does leaves some elements behind. I guess that’s why RejZjor created his own version to do a more thorough cleaning.

Any piece left over memory resident is a problem, when your using the clean tool, to diagnose an issue.

I disagree with your assumption because many uninstallers typically leave elements behind that lie dormant because they are never referenced again by the OS.

Did RejZor make or modify his clean tool for avast! 2014? I have a special version not publically released by avast, just email me if you want it!
