Hi Folks, I am hoping for a little assistance please? I was surfing the net trying to watch a sporting event online, when I came across a site that Avast, by way of the pop up notification window, advised me it was a malicious site. I terminated the site, and the next day I ran a complete scan, and it found this on the scan results page-
C:\Windows\system32\drivers\dmio.sys
Severity- high
status- Threat:Rootkit: System Modification
Action- Move to chest
Result- Error: The request is not supported(50)
On the right hand bottom of the page where it says 'Apply this action for all: I have it set to “Move to chest”
Can someone explain first what is this virus that was found? Is it related to the notification I received the other day? Why is it saying the request can not be supported and moved to the chest?
And also Avast is now telling me to re-boot the computer.
Any advice would be appreciated, thanks in advance-JC
upload suspicious file(s) to www.virustotal.com and test with 44 malware scanners
when you have the result, copy the URL in the addressbar and post it here so we can see
alternatives
Jotti`s malware scan http://virusscan.jotti.org/en
VirSCAN http://virscan.org/
The file name is legit and in the correct location, but that is no guarantee it isn’t infected, see http://www.file.net/process/dmio.sys.html for general information on the legit file.
The one in that location on my XP Pro SP3 system is the same size as the first reported size in that web page and didn’t come up in my Quick scan very early this morning, 00:10am and a right click scan whilst checking this topic also comes up clean. First ensure that you have the latest virus definitions.
So you should upload it for scanning as Pondus suggests
