??? I’m using the newest Avast Home Edition for Windows Xp Home Edition. When I set the boot scan and then restart my computer, the scan comes up and starts scanning when its suppost to, but then all the sudden it starts finding errors or somthing and keeps scrolling and then stops and then Windows Xp starts up. The scan I know couldn’t have finished already because it takes a long time to finish scanning my computer usually. Also on Quickscan sometimes screws up and the windows screen comes up saying it has encountered a problem and needs to close. Can I repair my avast. I don’t think I even have a virus. I scanned my computer with ad-aware SE and it didn’t find any spyware. How do I fix this problem?
Hello and Welcome to the forums
First of all we need more info - what was the error message you received when starting the boot-time scan and the Quickscan? What version of avast! you use? Did you tried repairing the avast! installation, if not you may try it.
btw can you resize your avatar, please :
You might want to change your avatar for another, resize or use this one. We try to keep avatars around 100 X 100 for those who don’t have high resolution monitors.
Can you check this log file?
\Data\Log\aswBoot.log
Can you post the contents here?
You can go to the program settings and turn on the creation of the report file (with “OK files” to be included as well in the report). This way, you can find out where the scan really stopped (it’s going to be close to the end of the report). After avast! disappears, check the end of the report file - the “troublesome” file is likely to be close to the end (close in the sense that this particular file will probably not be written in the report, but the previous one will be the last line, so it shouldn’t be hard to guess). We would certainly like to have this file - if it really causes problems to avast! - so that we could fix the problem. The report file created (if you turned it on in program settings) will be (default location) at \Data\Report\Simple User Interface.txt
Sure.
Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove programs > avast! antivirus > Remove. Then choose Repair function in the popup window (Repair). You must be connected to the internet while repairing.
Copy of Boot log. I don’t understand it. :o

I am using Avast 4.7 Home Edition
Build: August 2006 (4.7.871)
I didn’t try to repair anything. I didn’t get any message from Avast quickscan itself. It was WindowsXp saying it had encountered a problem and needed to close the program. All the quickscan did was stop scanning.
All I saw when I used the bootscan was it doing the regular scan running through the files scanning. Then all the sudden I see Error message but it starts scrolling down with more and more Errors before I can even read what the errors were.
P.S. Sorry about my pic. :
Please check the folder \data\log
Are there any files called unpXXXX there (where XXXX is a random number)?
If so, send them to vlk@avast.com
They may contain more information about the problem (maybe a link to this thread).
Vlk explains how to create a dump file here: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=22636.msg187340#msg187340
If you can, I suggest that you follow the debugging posted by Vlk here: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=23283.msg193594#msg193594
I can’t help further… It’s beyond my knowledge. I need avast team help here
Try this one if you like it ;D
Please post contents of the boot time scan report file (C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\DATA\report\aswBoot.txt).
