What kind of issues will I encounter if I stay with Windows XP SP2

my seven-year-old PC came pre-installed with SP2, and I’ve tried to upgrade to SP3, however, there were some issues and glitches, and I had to downgrade back to SP2.

What kind of issues will I encounter if I can’t update to SP3? And what can I do to improve security, if updating to SP3 is not possible?

1. Download and install: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=24
2. Well, you won’t get any security updates.
3. Not much, imo.

I have some computers older that that at our Senior Center and I"m running Windows 8 on them now
and using avast! for protection.
You can check out the requirements here if you’re interested in looking into that option.
