What other security programs are you using with Avast?
Hello everyone. I first want to say it’s been over a year since I have used Avast, but after alternating between AVG and Avira over that time, I am now very pleased to have Avast on board again. It is simply a fine AV and I will be keeping it on board this time. I also want to say how nice this forum is. I see threads on many subjects that are allowed to be discussed here and appreciate this. I just left a forum that puts restrictions on debates as to which security software may be best to use verses another, but when it was allowed it fueled some interesting and very informative debates that were fun to read. That is why I was wondering what other programs people here are using with Avast for their security set ups. I searched the forum and found some answers, but I thought it would be interesting to see the various combinations being used, and a brief explanation of why the person likes using them with Avast. I am currently running Online Armor Free with Avast Home because I feel that between OA Free’s features and the ones that Avast has, it runs well together and offers a fair amount of security. I know some members here use ThreatFire with Avast and seem to like this combination, sooo. “What other security programs do you use with Avast?”
Hi Jeleal,
I will give you my caleidoscope of security measures and programs besides Avast I run: SpywareBlaster, Ad-Aware 2007 and Ad-Watch 2007, a-squared-free, safexp, DrWebCureIt (on-demand), ClamWin (non-resident) Comodo BoClean, Comodo Firewall, Ewido-Micro, Mailwasher, IECacheExplorer, ATF-Cleaner, and In-browser security inside Flock or Firefox : NoScript, Stealther, CookieEditor, AdBlock several, JSView, TrustWatch, scandoo.com, DrWeb’s av hyperlink checker add-on, Viral Threat Level, LocalIp’s, User Agent, Error Console2, Distrust just to mention the most valuable.
Security is not a question of software, but a form of attitude. Main thing is know what you do, update and patch all the time, back up, and remember and an ounce of prevention is worth a kilo of cleansing. Know what are the dangers and the most likely vectors to become ridden with malware.

Hi,
I saw your original query over in avast-4, and I’ll make essentially the same reply that Tech did there: I think my signature pretty well covers my “arsenal”.
I’ve been asking around about whether I should consider adding an anti-rootkit, but there seems to be considerable differences of opinion as to whether rootkits are yet widespread enough to be a major concern.
About the only other item not shown in my sig isn’t security as such, but is handy for cleaning up loose ends after the scanners have done their thing. That’s JV-16, for registry cleaning. Plus (back to security) on rare occasions, when I’m getting odd behavior but no other scan is turning up anything, I’ll run a HijackThis scan and let experts look at the results.
This is the main Topic relating to security software, that Tech mentioned also, so that link should go here to direct others to that.
What Other Security Software do you use apart from avast! http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=28395.0
Hi!
besides Avast I use Comodo BoClean & Comodo firewall, also use Opera 9.24
Just switched to Zone Alarm Antispyware and ThreatFire. So far this seems like a very good combination with Avast.
I use AVG Anti-Rootkit. It’s free & doesn’t hurt. I run it once in a while just in case…
