What the?

I have a new icon on the bottom right next to my avast ball. It is the same as a security sheild but changes back and forth from a red crossed sheild to a blue one with a question mark in it. It keeps popping up with a balloon that says you have been infected with spyware. When it popps up you cannot type or work while it is up. If you try and click it off it goes straight to a website called virus heat or another box comes up and says security alert networm i.virus@fp and also tells me i have a virus. Both of them offer me antivirus software. I did a virus scan in normal and then boot mode and nothing , ran spybot nothing and ran ccleaner. My system is pentium 3 860 mhz 256 mb ram XP sevice pack 2 with the latest updated avast home edition. Here is a log file from highjack this. I am a computer retard so be gentle please with your instructions as i find it all very hard to follow. Logfile of HijackThis v1.99.1

Hello efuniture,

First remove the version of HijackThis you have, it is outdated and you are running it unzipped from temp folder. To make sure back ups are safe we need to properly set up HijackThis.

After you remove the version of HijackThis, follow these steps:

Please download Deckard’s System Scanner (DSS) and save it to your Desktop.
[*]Close all other windows before proceeding.
[*]Double-click on dss.exe and follow the prompts.
[*]When it has finished, dss will open two Notepads main.txt and extra.txt – please copy (CTRL+A and then CTRL+C) and paste (CTRL+V) the contents of main.txt and extra.txt in your next reply.

What DSS will do:

[*]create a new System Restore point in Windows XP and Vista.

[*]clean your Temporary Files, Downloaded Program Files, and Internet Cache Files, and also empty the Recycle Bin on all drives.

[*]check some important areas of your system and produce a report for your analyst to review. DSS automatically runs HijackThis for you, but it will also install and place a shortcut to HijackThis on your desktop if you do not already have HijackThis installed.
Note: dss will prompt you to download and install HijackThis for you, please allow this to happen !

Post both with main.txt and extra.txt, or attach them to your post.

Regards,

You have used an old version of HJT and we will need a new log from the updated HJT.

Please download HijackThis from the link below, run the program but do not make any fixes, and then post the log results in this thread using the “copy & paste” method. It will probably take more than one post to be able to get the complete log posted. Please post the whole log. Someone will review your log and then offer help.

EDIT: Oops … posted just after SnowWhite … sorry. Please follow SnowWhite’s directions.

Refering to the picture above, drag CFScript into ComboFix.exe

This will start ComboFix again. Additonally, ComboFix will generate the following files on your desktop

[*] And another file named - CF-Submit.htm
ComboFix may need to reboot to finish its work. Let it.

When CF has finished running, it will generate the ComboFix.log which will appear on your screen.

If CF-Submit.htm is detected, ComboFix will generate this message box:

Clicking OK will cause the machine’s browser to load CF-Submit.htm

Regards,

Hi Snow White, Thankyou for your time. I only got as far as submitting to bleeping computer for analysis because it then took me to their site so I registered and tried to resubmit it but when I redid the copy to notbook and dragged it to combo fix the little combo box apeared then the green squares filled up and nothing happened. I went back to bleeping and one of the things they told me to do was download adware and run it. When I downlowded adware and the down load finished I tried to run it and a box came up c:documents and settings/homeuser/desktop/aaw2007.exe is not a valid win32application. I tried redownloading it and just running it not saving it to desktop and same . Cheers

Hmmm… why do you insist in using ad-aware… most a very weak antispyware nowadays…

Hi efuniture,

The file was submitted successfully the first time you did run the script. You don’t need to be registered member at bleeping computers to submit file.

Click start > Run, copy&paste next line into empty runbox:

combofix /u

Press OK.

Run HijackThis and post new log back here.

If you get win32 error while trying to follow above instructions, just post back here and let me know, don’t do anything else.

Regards,

Hi Snow White,
I have been at work and not able to get on. It took me about an hour to do this simple task as every time I tried to get to avast my computer would take me to cleaning sites and then freeze up and I had to keep rebooting. Here is the log

Hi Tech,
As I couldnt continue with Snow Whites instructions and she wasnt on line, I thought I would follow their advice if I could obtain it. Before you ask for their advice they give you a list of instructions to do before you ask and that was one of them. As you can see I am a llama. ;D

Ok, you have couple of new things there, run these scans :

Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop

[*]Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
[*]Click the Scan for Vundo button.
[*]Once it’s done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
[*]You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
[*]Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
[*]When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.
Please post the contents of C:[b]vundofix.txt and a new HiJackThis log in a reply to this thread.
Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove. In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from “Click the Scan for Vundo button” when VundoFix appears upon rebooting.

Next:

Please download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri) to your Desktop.

Double-click SmitfraudFix.exe
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press “Enter”; a text file will appear, which lists infected files (if present).
Please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.

NOTE: If the tool fails to launch from the Desktop, please move SmitfraudFix.exe directly to the root of the system drive (usually C:), and launch from there.

NOTE: process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a “RiskTool”; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between “good” and “malicious” use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.
http://www.beyondlogic.org/consulting/proc…processutil.htm

Post back with vundofix report, SmitfraudFix report new HijackThis.

It would be best if you disconnect your computer from internet before following the instructions.

Cheers.

You should print out these instructions, or copy them to a NotePad file for reading while in Safe Mode, because you will not be able to connect to the Internet to read from this site.

First:

Download this program:

suspicious files packer

Highlight the files listed below in bold and right-click and selecting copy.

C:\WINDOWS\system32\kvqjumec.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\kvkdjpoh.dll

Then start the file packer program and right click in the white box and select paste to paste the copied file names in the field.

Then press the Continue button.

It will create an archive with these files and a small log on your Desktop that starts with a name like requested-file[date].cab.

Rename this file to efuniture.cab

Click on this link:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/submit-malware.php?channel=29
and fill in the required fields, then Browse for this filename:

efuniture.cab

Click on the Send File button.

Thank you!

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
[]Restart your computer
[
]After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
[]Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu with options should appear;
[
]Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press “Enter”.
[*]Choose your usual account.

Once in Safe Mode, double-click on SmitfraudFix.exe
Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press “Enter” to delete infected files.

You will be prompted : “Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry ?”; answer “Yes” by typing Y and press “Enter” in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection.

The tool will now check if wininet.dll is infected. You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found); answer “Yes” by typing Y and press “Enter”.

The tool may need to restart your computer to finish the cleaning process; if it doesn’t, please restart it into Normal Windows.
A text file will appear onscreen, with results from the cleaning process; please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.
The report can also be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt

Warning : running option #2 on a non infected computer will remove your Desktop background.

When you are done with smitfraudfix and back in normal mode, re-download DSS and try running scan with it, following these instructions:

Download Deckard’s System Scanner (DSS) and save it to your Desktop.

Post back with smitfraudfix report, dss reports main.txt and extra.txt.

Dear snow White, I have followed your instructions and I got as far as redownloading DSS. It downloaded ok and I ran it from Desk top. It ran until it got to tempary files and then just sat there. I waited 10 minutes, restarted it tried it for 15 then 1/2 hour, redownloaded it, tried it again, redownlowded it and just ran it, then redowloaded it back to desk top and ran it for 6 hours. Keeps stopping at the same spot, when it gets to 5 green squares and is working on temporary files. Heres a log for the first part and I will put in another hijack this. Thanks for your patience. Cheers SmitFraudFix v2.300
