What's Avast! Evangelist?

Pretty self-explanatory. What’s Avast! Evangelist? Just wondering because I keep seeing it here and there. :o

Hi Adelais Aer,

Avast describes this as a volunteer group of online helpers and brand ambassadors.
Community members who have helped avast greatly over the years by providing tech support to other users,
product feedback (including ideas for improvements), and more could be made Avast! Evangelist.
The avast forum community owes them a lot,

polonus

Oh. Well, that’s very nice. Alright, thank you.

If I may expand a little on polonus’ reply … until fairly recently, “evangelist” was one more step in the so-called rankings which were based strictly on post-count. Unfortunately this was open to abuse, inviting users to post many times for the sole purpose of improving their “ranking” and their resulting implied helpfulness here.

This was more or less corrected by changing the names of post-count rankings to more accurately indicate that’s all the names represent. And “groups”, including evangelist, were created to indicate that a member was particularly helpful in one or more specific areas … a person has to be nominated (or apply) to join such a group and must be approved for it, based on his/her history and reputation here.

If you’re interested, you can find more detail in this topic, created at the time the rankings were changed.

What's Avast! Evangelist?
someone that spend too much time in the forum ;D

101 days, 20 hours and 28 minutes

You might say that:
157 days, 6 hours and 12 minutes but who’s counting…

Yes, far too long, 392 days, 21 hours and 33 minutes.

Soorryyy that is for Übers. ;D

Kidding apart. Tehcnology Evangelists or Software Evangelists have several meanings best described here:

Hi Adelais Aer,

You hear what they all say: “Stay “glued” to the screen and you could become an Avast! Evangelist” ;D

polonus

You’re become an Evangelist much before that ;D
Total Time Spent Online: 820 days, 23 hours and 32 minutes.

True that. ;D
Total Time Spent Online: 27 days, 19 hours and 49 minutes.

  1. That’s good! lol…really.

Well I’ve been around for nearly 9 years as I don’t post very much so here mind see below, and I still have a very long way to go to reach Überevangelist

Total Time Spent Online: 49 days, 12 hours and 20 minutes.

Wow you guys are volunteers? Avast alerted me that something was wrong but you guys fixed it and deserve to get paid for that kind of expert help. If Avast doesn’t reconize that or for some bazzar leagle reason can’t pay you guys set up some pay pal accounts I would donate. You saved me 2 days of work formatting and reinstalling and that is worth alot in time and money.

We do it because we enjoy it.
The occasional “Thank You.” is enough payment.

They never went to the donation way.
Maybe we can find a way to users receive a donation ;D ;D

As Bob stated,“Thank you” is the best payment, you encourage us to continue what we’re doing

And, speaking for myself, we learn something new everyday.

To the OP; If only you knew how much the many users assisted me back when I first joined the forums. They still do.
Yes, I have heaped on the “Thanks”.

When you see an Avast Evangelist in real life, they will be wearing gloves and a ski mask. This is because they do not want their glowing countenances and skin to be noticeable as they go about their mission of saving the world from malware and the pond scum who produce it. ;D

For me, it’s the joy I receive from helping someone correct a problem or understand something they do not know about. And, as Bob said, a “Thank You” is a payment that can be enough. For me, that thank you from someone helped, adds a joy that money can not buy.

Most of us who are rated ‘evangelist’ give this voluntary work because we believe in the program and, for many of us, we love to help others.
