I’m unable to restart or shutdown my computer since Ive installed avast pro.
Explorer closes and everything dissapears as if its about to restart…thats where it freezes/stops.
I’m certain the problem is with avast because when i stop the On-Access Protection it lets me restart/shutdown with no problems what-so-ever.Is there a way to fix this conflict?
What is the version number you have installed the latest is 4.6.763 ?
if yours is earlier I suggest you do a manual program update and see if that resolves it.
Are you using the Pro Trial version or have you got a fully licensed pro Version ?
Did you have another AV installed on your system, this can possibly cause a conflict ?
Have you tried the forums search function, as I believe this has been discussed in the past. This is just one of the ones I found with a search for ‘avast shutdown freeze’ without the quotes http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=18585.0. Many of those found relate to earlier versions and may well have been resolved with the latest version.
whoa i didnt think having Dr.Web command line scanner installed would cause such a problem.I know better than having 2 anti-virus installed, but i figured since i didnt install the shield or have it run on start up,that it wouldnt interfere.Well i uninstalled it,no more problem with avast now .Thnk you for your response and help DavidR
I would have thought that the Dr Web command line scanner would have been OK, as I thought it would be an on-demand scanner with no resident elements (although this an educated guess as I don’t use it).
Although that seems to have solved your problem, I think there is more going on than that. I, along with many others here, use Dr Web without any problems. Since it is an on-demand scanner there should be no conflict with avast’s on-access scanner. I also have avast’s Web Shield active at all times.
# The Dr. Web® command line scanner
It scans the selected by a user objects on drives by request, detects and neutralizes viruses in memory, checks autorun files and processes.
So this would seem to be more than a simple on-demand command line scanner.
The Dr Web plug-in/extension is just an interface for checking URLs the actual scanning is done at Dr Web’s servers and the results posted on your browser. The Dr Web Command Line Scanner is installed on your system.
