What's stopping me entering certain sites?

I can’t get onto sites such as Yahoo.com at the mo and other sites seem very slow to load. I think this is due to cookie rejection but i cant fix it. Any ideas? Ta.

Windows XP Home, Avast 4.6 Home

Please answer me, i’m so sad…i need email. please…

Please explain in detail, we need more information to help. Firstly you mention difficulty/inability to enter sites and then you mention ‘I need email…’

Possibly two different things, please explain, what error messages, etc. help us to help you.

Have you recently installed avast 4.6 or had you updated from an earlier version?
What browser are you using?
What email program?
Is your email web based, e.g. you use your browser to view it?
Do you have a firewall, if so which one?
Why do you think it is cookie rejection that is causing the problem?

I think you can see we need help to help you.

Yeah, good points all round - i am a numpty.

My email is webmail, I use Yahoo mail. It says my computer isn’t accepting cookies, and my session therefore expires straight away. I’ve checked privacy policies and internet properties as well - all seem to be as normal.

Avast 4.6 was an automatic update, Microsoft internet explorer provided by Blueyonder (rubbish), i’ve got the windows XP firewall and ZoneAlarm (free version).

And all the sites i regularly visit are just loading very very slowly.

One more thing: I’m pretty sure this only started since I either added Zone Alarm or Avast update to 4.6.

I think that covers all the bases.

Make sure cookies are accepted.

Have you already tried without ZoneAlarm?

  • remove ZA
  • reboot
  • try the websites/mail
  • reinstall ZA

Downloaded new 4.6 and immediately could no longer sign on websites (university and yahoo) with Windows XP IE.

Eliminated problem by Terminating the new 4.6 Web Shield.

I am now looking for information to Customize the Web Shield to run without problem.

Looking at the Customizing windows, I cound not find an apparent fix.

Anyone have suggestions?

You need to allow ashwebsv.exe in your firewall.

Thanks – that did it!

Thanks that solved by problem too!

Happy days…all better. Ta very much
