Hi all,
I don’t particularly like the v.8 update popup window. I’d like to replace it with the v.7, or v.6 popup window.
What is the name of the popup window file and where is it?
Hi all,

Here it is http://www.oldapps.com/avast_antivirus.php
Hi Staticguy,
I was asking for the update popup file, what it’s name is and where it is.
Sorry for the misunderstanding! You are asking about the pop-up update window that comes up at the bottom right hand corner when ever there is a VPS update made automatically, right???
Yes.
Short answer you can’t as the auto update notification (popup) function is integral to the avast version you are using and isn’t swapable as such.
Not sure why you want to do this, unless it relates to an issue/bug with the auto update notification popup, which for some isn’t working correctly:
jpChris!!! I am sorry that ain’t possible… the popup window can’t be replaced as each different update notification is different from each other? Why don’t you like it? I am pretty sure older version of Avast will be discontinued very soon! Download the Avast 2014 version. It is much better with far more better protection and many fixes that users reported.
You will like it.
@ DavidR,
I didn’t know it was integrated into Avast itself; I thought it was a separate “.exe” that was invoked when the update was complete. Everything works fine, though, just wanted the old popup window back.
@ Staticguy,
I did try 2014, but I had waaay too many issues with it that I’ve seen others have had with it also.
Anyway, thanks, guys, for letting me know I can’t change the update popup screen.
You could revert to 8.0.1497 stable version until XP issues seem to have been worked out. If you do, be sure to set the program update settings from the default one as in the .jpg below so as to be unticked, so you can keep .1497 version until you are ready to move to the newest version.
You get the 8.0.1497 free version here: http://www.filehippo.com/download_avast_antivirus/download/0c203d8e8244458c5da81998eb76f523/ and the last .jpg is to prevent the self-defense module in avast! from actively blocking any/all files from being properly removed by the Add/Remove uninstaller action.
Use this file (Place on desktop only!) and run and it will automatically reboot into Safe Mode: http://www.avast.com/en-us/uninstall-utility While in Safe Mode, select the version used and point the uninstaller only at the correct folders/files and run. Reboot.
Latest versions can be gotten here: http://www.avast.com/download-software
Hi mchain,
I have v.8.0.1489. And, thanks for the screenshots; mine is set exactly as you posted.
It’s too bad there isn’t an .exe file I can swap-out for the popup window.
Oh, well.
You’re welcome.
As this is a matter of personal preference, but does not affect proper operation of avast, should be something one can live with. If it did affect operation, that would be a different story altogether.
