What's wrong on my computer with AVAST 5 Free?

Hi to everybody!
I try to install v.5.0.462 and have same problems as I had with all previous releases of 5.0.XXX.

  1. I can’t scan anything cause buttons are inactive
  2. I can’t update both program and virus bases cause “An attempt was made to load a program with an incorrect format”

I understand that something missing (some program?) on my computer to work AVAST correctly. But what?

My OS is Win7 Home Premium…

AVAST 4.8 is still working without problem

Please download the Avast Removal Tool and use it to clean all traces of Avast! 4.8 from your system.

aswclear.exe in safe mode before installation of v.5 was executed… no changes…

I tried all last month, also clear installation (with uninstalling 4.8) and installation over 4.8…

There is something else wrong on my computer… Problems with some plugins (something like flash players etc.)? (cause buttons on SCAN unclickable and have no text on it)…

Could you change the UI to English and provide the same screenshots again?
Makes it a little easier for us english-speakers to find a way out…

Today were two attempts with full clearing of registry in safe mode etc. Enough for today (I hate routine with install/uninstall AVAST 5 and 4.8). Tomorrow I’ll install english version of 5 and provide the same screenshots here again… Thanks to all

You don’t need to uninstall/install to change the language.
It can be done in the settings.

well. the third and the last try today. i install 5 again (cause i always return to 4.8). here are screenshots. but information window about mistake still in Russian. i have no practice in English and my translation as “it was made attempt to load a program with an incorrect format” maybe not absolutely correct

Hmmm… where did you download the setup-file?
Try this: http://files.avast.com/iavs5x/setup_av_free.exe.
Maybe it’s a corrupt setup-file you are using?

I downloaded this file many times from files.avast.com (all, time by time, from beta to release - same reaction). Those file, that I’ve downloaded today don’t work on my main computer, but work on netbook ASUS very good. Something wrong with programmes/settings on my computer, not with installator. And i want understand what. I think that reinstalling of Win7 will solve this problem. But I have no problem with other products. I don’t want reinstall Windows cause of AVAST. 4.8 is still supported, I have time to find solves of problem.

I didn’t know this installer ran on other systems.

For what it’s worth, I’ve seen the missing scan details before on XP and it was fixed by repair from Add/Remove Programs and an unprompted reboot.
