All of the False Positives all of a sudden? ??? Ive just been scanning through the virus board for the past week or so helping out where I can and I have been noticing the long string of false positives? I’m just wondering as a dedicated user what is up with it? since avast! doesn’t include heuristic detection except for certain moduals this seems to be pretty shocking in my opinion.
If you look closer you will see that majority relate to generic signature detections indicated by the -gen at the end, e.g. win32:trojan-gen, these are trying to catch multiple variants for a type of malware, not an easy task and hard to find a balance.
So it is not to dissimilar to heuristic detections, which can be prone to false positive detections.
It just emphasises the ‘first do no harm’ don’t delete, send to the chest and investigate, this is what I would do for any AV detection.
the Generic detection part isnt whats so shocking to me its the fact that so many of them are being thrown up right now that are proving to be false positives? thats what I find shocking
They’re working on submission/detection system… there are being that many adjusts… so the false positives. Some detections of avast are being among the first antivirus of add them.
