With the latest Avast Free Antivirus installed I’m getting the error code: WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR. I basically can’t get into Windows and need to boot into safe mode, uninstall Avast and all is fine again. What can I do about this? I obviously will have to choose another antivirus program if this can’t be resolved.

No other security software
Nothing changed other than Avast updated itself and after a reboot I get the WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR unless I uninstall Avast.
Could you please post the version number… that is the build number.
Avast UI > Settings > Update
It will be displayed under current version for the program.
Just to be clear, this issue wasn’t happening before you updated to the latest version which is 17.2.2290?
If 17.2.2290 is the latest then that’s what I had installed. I need a working PC so I don’t have it installed now.

Did you buy this machine new with W 10 (pre)installed or was there another os installed before?

Snake, I originally had Windows 7 Pro 64 bit installed but upgraded to Windows 10 Pro 64 bit when it was rolled out. I had no problems until my Avast software updated itself recently though so can’t see why the Windows upgrade would be an issue now. I’ve been using Windows 10 for many many months now.
Seems so, that there is a driver error. Hope the following link helps:

Hmm, it seems hal.dll is responsible having checked the memory dumps on BlueScreenView. Don’t know why I hadn’t thought to check that out sooner.
