When A Scan Is Running - Scan% , Time & MB Scanned Can Not Be Extrapolated

I have never found the percentage scanned number to be very useful

For example I just did a Full System Scan and here are some numbers

20GB scanned in 3:05 and the percentage scanned is 0%
30GB scanned in 9:30 and the percentage scanned is 1%
40GB scanned in 13:12 and the percentage scanned is 6%
50GB scanned in 13:55 and the percentage scanned is 10%
60GB scanned in 16:30 and the percentage scanned is 12%
70GB scanned in 19:37 and the percentage scanned is 13%

Finished

261GB scanned in 25:20 and the percentage scanned is 100%

So the scan took

14 minutes to scan the first 50GB which showed 10% complete
11 minutes to scan the last 211GB and the remaining 90%

The Scan Percentage Complete, MB Scanned and Scan Time are meaningless when looked at while a scan is in progress if one is trying to figure out how long it will take a scan to complete.

The reason is some files take a long time to process/ scan that others… Its quite normal… Not only for scanning, for compression / extraction of files also it would be the same…

Well I have a little doubt if someone can clarify… ??? ???
avast scanned size is much greater than the actual one (see screenshot)

The image on the left says that it scanned 6 files. I guess it scanned the attached pictures/sound files separately. Not quite sure about it but there isnt anything unusual.

What avast! scanned almost never matches the total file size of scanned items since avast! also unpacks files.

Have your screen set up upside down? ::slight_smile:

Good joke…lolz. ;D ;D

Couldn’t resist…

However, the point he made is correct I believe. Avast obviously scans embedded files like image-, sound- and video-files.

Or maybe indian MB are just greater than the profane rest-of-the-world-megs. ::slight_smile:

Now you are pulling my leg… ;D
The answer is ya maybe… You are knowledgeable than me (as per your profile foto) ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Yes, he resurrected to help us here. ;D

Kind of true… have been absent for quite some time from this forum.

lol!! sorry my bad, the image on the RIGHT! :stuck_out_tongue: :stuck_out_tongue:

hahahah good one!!

LOL

That one is just marvellous! Hilarious. ;D

Loved that cartoon too – obviously the instructor should not have used 8 for his example. ;D

Back to topic, sorta … does that progress percentage indicator refer to volume of data (GB or whatever) or to number of files? Anyone know?
