Why is this a thing??? How do I stop Avast from disabling my audio? My job includes me taking screen recordings of sections of our podcast. Everytime Avast POPS UP, it disables my audio and I have to not just close Chrome but restart my computer. Can someone tell me who to stop this. Thank you
Now that I’ve checked everything, ZERO audio is playing. Not on VLC, Spodify or AfterAffects. NOTHING
and before someone says: check blah blah blah…
- The website is NOT muted
- My audio sliders are NOT muted
I just restarted and the audio works again on everything. Please Please Please don’t be THE VIRUS Avast. You need to do better. Thank you! Please fix this issue. You’re supposed to protect us from these types of issues, NOT BE THE ISSUE!!!

There isn’t much detail to work here. What is the popup screen about, a screenshot might help ?
Have you tried adding the website to the Avast UI > Settings > General > Exceptions.
See screenshot of examples, not the * asterisk in the URL this is a wildcard representing either a single character or a group of characters.

This is happening when I’m using the Snipping Tool on Windows. While I’m recording the screen, ie Youtube, and an Avast popup hits, it disables the audio. Fyi, while recording using the Snipping Tool, I do not see the popup. I can tell it is an Avast popup because the audio is disabled. I then stop recording in the Snipping Tool, save file, and then reduce Google Chrome, in this case Youtube, and close the Avast popup screen. Keep in mind, it doesn’t matter if I’m in Google Chrome on Youtube or another website, nor does it matter if I’m using Spotify (non-Chrome program). It is the Snipping Tool on Windows and Avast Popup that is disabling the audio for everything; Chrome, Spotify, VLC, even the audio slider that gives you a “ding” sound to tell you how loud the slider is located. It disables my computer’s audio completely. So there is no exceptions list for this. It affects my computer, not the website. The only fix is restarting my computer.
I work with podcasters and it is often easier for me to use the Snipping Tool to record short sections (on Youtube, VLC, Spotify, etc) than it is to download massive files and cut them up in Video/Audio programs. But Avast is a problem when it sends a popup and forces me to close everything, restart, find my place again and start again. It doesn’t make sense that it is something else as Avast popups are the only consistent thing that is affecting this, aside from the Snipping Tool. So I think there is some sort of configuration error between Avast popups and the Snipping Tool that is dropping the audio. Can I make an exception for a Windows Tool in Avast?
If you can identify the app in windows, you should be able to at that to the program Exceptions, under the Blocked and Allowed apps.
You would have to locate the Windows Snipping Tools location/path and copy the location into the Blocked and Allowed apps also shown in my screenshot.
Ok, I added the file location to Exceptions and Blocked/Allowed Apps. I hope this works because I just discovered that not only did I lose the audio after avast popups, but none of the files I recorded have audio that had an Avast popup. That’s about 12 hours of work I have to redo. How do I tell Avast this? I thank you for helping me but this is a much bigger issue now that I’ve lost so much time and work.

You don’t say what Avast Product and version you are using, posting in the General sub-forum doesn’t give any clues to that.
