hi
can someone let me know when does the support for WinNT on avast Pro. 4.8 ends?
i looked up FAQs but couldn’t find out when it ends…

Don’t quote me but if NT is supported by 4.8, it will probably stay that way. I have no idea about 5.0, however.

avast has not announced anything other than its continued (albeit it limited) support for the Win9x operating systems (Win95, Win98, Win 98SE, WinMe).
avast continues to provide full support for the WinNT operating systems (WinNT, Win2000, Win XP, Windows Vista).
I suspect that we will have to wait for Microsoft to move beyond the Win NT stream … they they are still on … for a change.
Probably best if you do not hold your breath for an announcement of avast terminating support for the WinNT stream.

i hope that it won’t end in 1-2 years,cause no other anti-virus softwares are supporting WinNT.
avast is the only hope for guys like me…
As stated by someone above, NT, 2000, XP & Vista are WinNT based operating systems. I feel sure most all av programs are still supporting these OS’s and probably will support them for the foreseeable future.
But, the older operating systems such as W95,W98, W98SE, and ME are no longer supported by other av’s. These 4 OS’s are considered hybrids of WinNT and are different in some aspects.
Click the image below for a chart of normal WinNT OS’s … though the 1990’s versions are not relative in today’s world. You will notice that W95, W98, W98SE, and ME are not included.
As for if and when avast will no longer support these older “hybrid” versions of WinNT, that can only be answered by someone from AWIL.
And, I believe Windows 7, can be added to that list when released, as it will be based on the WinNT architecture.
Good to know the things will continue in the same direction… hope better.
