Well that is only your opinion and in my opinion, a mistaken one. Comodo offers rock solid protection.
What is ridiculous in wanting an option to completely isolate your online activity while banking or shopping? This is something that the free Avast does not offer. Hence, it does not give me everything I want.
I only come to these forums now for the updates and information threads. I stay out of the threads about the actual products since I’m not using them any more. I never intended to advertise anything else or explain why I left Avast, but, I was asked.

Virtumonde, a file infector, It infected my C: Drive and killed my OS the way I could not repair it and also infected most of .exe files in my external hard drive that I had accessed while I’ve been infected.

I cannot tell for myself because it’s many years I did not deal with malwares, but for my customers It’s different based on which kind of users/groups we are talking, removable medias (Flash Drives), Social Media driven scams leading into installing junk stuff, pirate tools and many more…

It was a rogue antimalware. I forgot the name since I reformat my laptop once a year.

I tried to infect my laptop just to see if avast works.

Curiosity.
Infected sites are automatically blocked by avast and the browser. Malware from external media are blocked by mcshield and avast.
Only I can decide to infect my laptop or not.
Duh… : This is how we learn things. After that I started playing with various security products and learned the ins and outs of everything. Had Avast 4 (Media Player) for a long time. Had NIS and KIS for years. Had Avira and Comodo Firewall. I have tried everything. The title of the thread is “When was the last time you were infected and how?”. So there is no need to comments on how you got infected and or why you should not do certain things. Not all cracks, keygens, etc are malware. But most cracks only work for a few weeks till your license key gets blacklisted. In the end its not worth it.
You must have been rather young and inexperienced then. Users learn nothing from cracks, for cracks is the poor man’s substitute for reverse engineering. With cracks as you experienced you do not know what is coming in the “slipstream”, so to say. Analyzing with file code analyzers and resource hackertools for instance is where users learn how code is being put together, not from cracks and circumventions. Replicating worm, can’t remember the name or the circumstances. I was using Symantec Internet Security at the time.
I posted as a reply to the subject tittle of this thread. I do not need to know the does and don’ts of cracks and keygens. This isn’t about blaming people or criticizing them for how they got infected. Thanks. We learn from our mistakes. Isn’t this what life is about.
3. Method of infection: still unknown. Suspect it occurred while online.
My computer displayed no symptoms. At the time I had been offline for about 5 minutes and performed one of my several, daily anti-malware scans with SAS, which subsequently detected the Sirefef Trojan. Either the trojan itself, or perhaps during the disinfection process by SAS, the ipsec.sys file was removed, thus preventing Internet access & hence, obtaining help here in the Forums. Had to take the computer to a repair shop to resolve issue; Cost: $123.00 (USD). (Didn’t have a 2nd computer on hand to use).
Security software in use at the time: Avast (free), Outpost Firewall Pro, MBAM Pro (real-time scanning enabled), Spywareblaster, SAS (on-demand).
Also, at that time I was notyet using Firefox w/ NoScript as I do now. Was still using IE. Computer OS in use at the time was a Win XP Pro, SP3.
Me,back in 2004 when I had a old PC running winxp and was clueless user back then,got infected with strange piece of malware back then,it turned all the processes in taskmanager to realevent.exe hogging 100%CPU and somehow if I killed the process called realshed.exe it used to kill the malware and turn everything back to normal.Dont know where I got it from,was running Norton back in then LOL :o Cleaned the machine later that year with Ad-aware,that is the time I began learning about viruses and I got rid of that machine in 2010 and got this laptop and started running avast on it,clean since 2010 and happy go lucky ;D
