When will the firewall get a makeover?

When will the firewall module get a makeover?

I mean its not useless but its really bad.
Even the Windows firewall is better manageable.

Main problems:

  • You can browse to an .exe to create an application rule but you can’t edit the selected .exe afterwards (very unfriendly when Firefox gets an update).
  • You can’t change the name of the rule, making it a mess of weird .exe names
  • If you have multiple rules with the same name (because of updated software) you can’t see which is what, I end up deleting them all and make new ones.
  • You can’t create a rule from the log when a program is blocked

How it should work:

  • Create a rule with a name and add ports, like port 80 and 443, browse to .exe files (ie. all your browers) and save.
  • You can then edit this rule if things change.

Avast is most likely made to be set on auto but that defeats the purpose of the whole firewall.

I updated to IS from Free a few years back but after every update the firewall stays the same.
I don’t give anything about Grimefighter or Browser cleanup just make the existing modules better.

I’ve told it several times on this webboard.
Use a hardware firewall.

Not really helpful answer.
I am in the hardware firewall business myself and have one right here so that’s not the point.

A firewall allows certain ports, what program uses that port doesn’t matter for the firewall.
I just want that extra security to control which program has internet access and which not.
Thats were a software firewall comes in, Avast has one, but its not very flexible.

If you dont trust a program to have net access then dont install it ;)

Agree ...... Some AV vendors have stopped making firewall, when you click firewall settings in the program you are taken to WinFirewall settings
