When will you upgrade to Vista?

Within a few years most of us will be using Vista, when will you make the switch?

I think all of these may apply for me:

When I upgrade my hardware
A considerable time after release when most of the bugs are fixed
When XP is on longer supported
Never if I can help it

Quite possibly in that order to, there is no way I will before I need to update my hardware and that would be in 18-24 months I guess.
So some of the bugs will have been worked out of it and will be the end of XP Home support (max 2 years after release of new product), but XP Pro will still have more support life cycle left.
When I do eventually consider a hardware update, I will also be looking at other OS options, primarily Linux, from what I’m hearing in a couple of newsletters there really isn’t much in Vista (that I either need or desire) that I can’t do with XP Pro, I not worried about Bells and Whistles, graphics effects, etc. and change for change sake. I don’t feel UAC is a must have feature, I can soldier on with DropMyRights and a degree of common sense.
Some of the major things that were originally touted as being in Vista aren’t going to be in the Vista release, the most notable being the new file system.
If a major reason to move to Vista was security, then I would probably go to Linux. So I can’t see Vista on my system for some considerable time if ever.

As you Know I Use OS X so I will never Upgrade to Vista. I do However Use Xp for Games and the Microsoft Visual Studio .NET development software but I dont plan on upgrading from XP for those tasks

As soon as it goes gold, it’s on my baby here… I’m already testing RC1 Build 5600 and it works flawlesly. Why avoiding something that’s inevitable ? Same thing happened when SP2 came out… oh boy, when I remember all those babies crying that they will never ever install something like that because “it just brings additional problems”, even though no one ever knew what they are talking about ???

Today, everybody’s on SP2, and all those stubborn-heads that are still on SP1, eventually will have to move to SP2. Why ? Because we all know SP2 is more safe and secure, whther you like to admit it or not. Also, support for SP1 will stop soon, so you choose how you wanna deal with your PC.

Same thing will happen with Vista… so many people will “hate” it and keep bitching about it, but one day eventually they all will have Vista installed on their systems. Sure not all systems can run Vista, but that will change. I mean how many of you have exactly the same configuration for the last 10 years ? None… every now and then you buy some new card and replace the old one with it… components are getting less and less expensive every day (sorry Apple, it will never happen ;D ) so one day when we get some new, very good components at high prices, those older ones that still can run Vista will be pretty cheap.

i have enough on this system to run mult-vistas but i am always pre-cautious when a new product or software like that comes out and usually wait for a while to hear reviews and users comments before installing
but it will be on here in given time :-[

I can only speak for myself, but I’m not blaming Vista.
I’m blaming my own hardware.
So, like you said, I’ll have to wait for a hardware that allows Vista… only that.
Vista is an improvement… we can’t move backward

I plan on upgrading to Vista, but not sure when exactly, most likely in 2007 or 2008 ( i know thats not very specific). What people who are upgrading must realize is that you will be using Vista to use and operate your computer, it is smarter to wait and see what major bugs there may be, before you put your trust into something entirely new. But to answer the original question, yes I will upgrade to Vista, when? I am not entirely sure yet. My hardware should run Vista perfectly however I have not testing Vista Beta 2 or RC 1 so I cannot be entirely sure. But with all of the tests I have done, I should be able to run Vista well. Also most of the hard core gamers will have to upgrade to Vista because of Direct X 10.

I will upgrade to Vista when I build a new computer. Since I just built this one last year, it will hopefully be a few years before I need to build another one. And, hopefully, the bugs will mostly be out of Vista by then.

Besides the above, I’ve found that it is not a good idea to buy a newly released OS … or other software for that matter.

Ok A Vista Question. How “aware” is Vista of Multicore / Hyperthreaded Processors?

Does it automatically run diffrent apps on the diffrent cores or do the programs need to be written to do that.

Well… Vista… I will change when I upgrade to a new computer, not that this is an old one, relatively.
I hope my current PC does not get old in a sense that it is outdated soon.
That happened to win 95 last time. I was maybe the last one using that, but then not knowing much about security.

Vista needs to be having security programs working and all that.
And I have mine configured for “poor” XP, read my sig.

I have an online “lady”, upgraded to vista, all sorts of problems, even accused me, poor soul.
