I am one of those with BSOD caused by 000.fcl. I have tried 5.0.377.0 with clean uninstall of 4.8 (w/ and w/o running aswclear) PLUS removed all security products from other companies, and now I’m back with 4.8.
Q: Where can I find out the lastest version number? No way I’m downloading another 40MB just to find out it’s the same 377 over and over again.
I guess I should have stated the question a different way … how do I find out if there were a newer version than 5.0.377 without actually downloading the file?
The green corner pop-up of avast 4.8 does not include any version info, and the manual check only checks for the newest version 4. I can’t find any subversion info on the avast website, and so far I have downloaded avast 4 times only to realized it’s still 5.0.377. I don’t want to download a 5th time just to figure out it’s the same file again.
When a new version will be released it will be all over the forum and on the front page, so don’t bother downloading it, just be patient and wait for it. I’m waiting for the improved version too.
Filehippo, link provided by Pondus, is one of the best I know of. It’s usually very up to date and clearly marked with version numbers and shows which one is the newest.
