I just spent the last hour looking around on here for a BB that has Anything to do with Windows 7 Ultimate.
I’ve downloaded and installed the program with no problems. Make no mistake that Avast is running. Enter my problem.
I’ve gotten the License key C&P’ed it. I didn’t get the extra space at the end or the beginning (I checked) My system date is spot on (I checked that also) I’m logged on to the ONLY account on this computer which is a Computer Admin account. I’ve tried probably 3 dozen times with nearly half a dozen keys. All to no avail. I’m very happy with this program and really don’t wanna learn something else.
Yes…it is an invalid key Sorry I’m working on three different computers. The other two took Avast with no problem…that is fully registered and keyed up. This one however is being a Pain in the neck. grrr
It should be noted that I"m not mixing up the keys…I triple checked that to make sure that wasn’t it either.
Is this for avast Home or Pro installation ?
The reason I ask is that if your use is for Home and non-commercial use a single Home registration key would work for all your Home systems. If for commercial use, or you specifically want the pro version, you would require a license for each system.
So if the home version, you could try a key that has worked on one of the other two systems, that would at least rule out a duff key (unlikely).
I don’t use win7 so I don’t know us the meeker version of UAC is still getting in the way or not as it most certainly has to be an account with admin permissions. Unfortunately I don’t know if there is a way of using the Run As function (which file to use) to ensure it is run as an admin user.
However, there are many avast users that are using win7 in various forms and I don’t recall seeing this as a specific win7 problem. Though there are occasions that people have experienced this inability to enter the key, whilst their other systems also have no problem.
Whilst this may not be the issue, but will grasp any passing straw - Have (or did) you another Anti-Virus installed in this system, if so what was it and how did you get rid of it ?
Other than that I would be looking at either trying a repair of avast. Add Remove programs, select ‘avast! Anti-Virus,’ click the Change/Remove button and scroll down to Repair, click next and follow. This has in the past resolved this out of sync issue between reported and actual VPS version.
If that fails I would suggest a clean reinstall and before the install right click on the setupeng.exe and select Run As and see if that makes a difference.
Download the latest version of avast http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html and save it to your HDD, somewhere you can find it again. Use that when you reinstall. Ensure that you scroll down and select the avast direct download link for the English version and not Cnet as that is for an on-line installation (not what you want to do). - Direct download for avast Home, English version, http://files.avast.com/iavs4pro/setupeng.exe.
Download the avast! Uninstall Utility, find it here and save it to your HDD.
Now uninstall (using add remove programs, if you can’t do that start from the next step), reboot.- 2. run the avast! Uninstall Utility, reboot. If step 1 failed it may be necessary to run this from safe mode, once complete reboot into normal mode.- 3. install the latest version, reboot.
