It has been a while. I was wondering
a) will avast release a new version to fix the numerous BSOD cause by 6.0.1203 and the avast enhanced protection problem or avast will jump straight to version 7?
b) if a new version is release to fix the BSODs and enhance protection, when will it be available (the beta)?

Enhanced protection things is NOT related to avast! in any way because i’ve seen it with other things as well.
A new build is planned to solve few issues. Not sure what exactly will land in it though, but i know its in the works. avast! 7 is not to be expected before year 2012.

Nice. But you don’t know when the beta will be release?

Nobody does (except maybe Rednose, the Avast! Insider ;D) , they just drop it on the forum when it is done with alpha.

I’m not aware of any bugs. As far as I see, the Enhanced protection only kicks in if you are infected.

Try doing a clean install on a fresh Win 7 32 bit with no security except Sandboxie with the latest avast 6.0.1203. When avast installer state “finishing installation”, you will get a BSOD. Happen on 2 computers with Win 7 32 bit. Coincidence? I think not.

There are certainly bugs in Avast 6.0.1203, some already solved (read as “prepeared for the next beta”). I think that Dch48 was referring to the “enhanced mode” issue only, if I understood correctly.

Not really, I wasn’t aware there were any BSOD’s still happening and the only things I read about the Enhanced Protection mode showed that it was happening after a certain type of malware infection. As far as sandboxie goes, never had it, never will.
Certainly some problems with 1203 and XP. The fact that pk provided a patch
attests to that.
Doesn’t Avast! use XP in their test bed any more?
PK released one patch for WinXP only. Since I don’t have any of those installed, I have no need to apply that patch.
ap2011-17-07-002: Patch for slowdown with RAXCO PerfectDisk/Retrospect/Norton Ghost software, Windows XP only! (Free/Pro/IS)
One patch is for AIS only. Since the OS is not listed, it must be for all Windows version supported.
ap2011-17-07-001: Patch for boot-time defrag issue with RAXCO PerfectDisk (AIS users with installed Firewall component)
The third patch is for ntdll.dll syscall exports and also does not mention the OS targeted.
ap2011-24-07-001: Patch for ntdll.dll syscall exports (Free/Pro/IS)
I haven’t installed this third patch, either. The OS is not mentioned for this patch. So far, I haven’t noticed any problems with Avast Free. If I do have a problem before the forthcoming update, I’ll apply this patch.
I would think that Avast tests their products on all supported operating systems. If the 2 patches that aren’t specifically targeted to WinXP are not for all supported OS, then http://public.avast.com/~kurtin/patches/ should be revised to reflect that.
