Where is notification shown of new program updates

I have 2 computers; both have avast installed and are set for automatic definition updates. This works with no problems. One is set for automatic program updates, yet this didn’t occur during recent release. The other is set to “ask when update available” but I could find no notification.

I successfully updated both manually, but where should I be looking for the notification?
