Where is Program Guard?

I installed new version 6. First impressions are great, but I can’t find where to turn off program guard. I really do not need it to run all the time. Anyone know how to turn it off?

What avast version are you using, free/pro/ais ?
What do you mean by program guard, there is no avast shield of that name ?

I am using free. In previous versions if you right click on the avast icon, the pop up menu had “program guard” in the list and you could check or uncheck it to turn it on or off.

There is an option to disable the shields and you can open the avast interface and do it one by one.
But, really, disabling the file shield is NOT a good idea. You always need protection (that’s an antivirus for!).

That’s odd, I don’t remember that. ??? ??? :-\

So the old “program guard” is now the file shield? I install a lot of software and do not want to have to deal with all the pop-ups in the process.

Hmmm… We’re definitively not talking about the same software… There is no popups while installing cleaning software.

Hmmmm. do you mean the Avast! “self-defense”?

Just right-clicked system tray icon and noticed it is not there for me.

Do you mean program guard from Online Armor?

I initially thought that myself.
Definitely a communication thing. :-\

I certainly don’t remember it ever being called Program Guard and that is going back as far as avast 4.3 I think, certainly not in 4.8 or 5.x.

See image1 from avast 4.8, there was Pause Provider and Stop Provider (Provider, a.k.a. Shield now). I haven’t been able to find an image of this with avast 5.x (pretty much the same if I remember rightly) and image2 the current avast 6.0.1000 tray icon menu.

Program Guard is part of Comodo isn’t it?

no, sorry, I’m thinking of the guard32.dll.
