Which ADNM for which SBS

Hello, new here, I’m attempting to try out Avast on our network comprising single server with SBS standard edition and about a dozen workstations.
I think I now have Avast running on the server ok and my next step is ADNM.

Apologies if this has been answered before but I’ve spent some hours reading this forum without firm conclusion.

Should I use the installation with or without MSDE?

As I understand it, you should be able to go without, if SQL is already there.
However, is the SQL incorporated in SBS STANDARD edition suitable?

I recall only the premium edition had full SQL and that the SQL in the standard edition appeared at SP1, but may in some way be limited just to SBS own administrative use.

Any advice will be much appreciated!

Hi,

In the SBS Standard you have a MSDE for administration, as you said, and you cannot use it for ADNM.

You have to install ADNM with MSDE because ADNM install create a new MSDE database.

When you go to Add/Remove Programs in your MS Windows SBS Server you can see different installs of MSDE: Monitoring, avast, (Sharepoint if you install it)…

You can uninstall one of them and the other works because they are different installs of MSDE. In a MS SQL Server they will be: Instance.

Regards.

Many thanks, I’ll get it under way - no doubt be back with more questions later!
