I, along with others, have found the need to permanently disable the web shield in Avast 9. I can reinstall Avast 8 and run with the web shield. Which will give the the better protection?
If you scan through just this forum over the past few days, you will see how many people are reporting false positives, including me.
The reason I am pissed off is because I am a software developer, writing software for 20 years, and this past week we have had to spend considerable time supporting our customers after avast corrupted and broke our software because it claims it is some “suspected” malware without any cause. This is specialized software for the insurance industry that is code signed with authenticode signatures from a CA. I thought I was alone until I came to the forum here and found lots of people complaining about the same thing. Avast is breaking, corrupting, and removing legitimate software from computers.
So if Avast thinks it is cool to make people distrust us by telling people our software is malware, then I think it is fair to let people know what kind of “security” product they are installing on their computers. It is so secure, it won’t even let your legit programs function properly.
You are getting tedious, although having said that there are more subforums that you do not appear to have hit yet… Please get a life. If you have a problem then it will get sorted once you stop behaving like a spoilt brat
Not sure what the FS is, I don’t use Avast. I only downloaded it after getting field reports that it was corrupting our software. For me, it happened as soon as I installed avast and it did it’s quick scan. It removed our exe file, into quaranteed, but as I mentioned, even adding it to the exclude list and telling it to restore the file does not work.
Sure that is easy for you to say since you are some sort of avast fanboy (antivirus software has fanboys now?) Telling me to get a life when you are some sort of uber avast evangelist? really? I wouldn’t even be here if avast had not already wasted hours of my life this week cleaning up THEIR MESS. If I could send avast a bill for the support hours we have wasted on their buggy crappy software, then I wouldn’t complain so much, but since I can’t and their 1800 number where you talk to someone is a laughable joke where you get to talk to a script reader from a foreign country tell you in a thick accent that the solution to everything is to uninstall and reinstall, then I have taken to these forums until avast gets its act together.
As someone who is an uber evangelist of this software, you should be embarrassed and ashamed of what a poor quality product it has clearly become.
You are also not very supportive. Why cannot you produce some VT results for these so-called avast false positives you talk about.
Were these only detected by avast or were there other av solutions detecting these as well.
Mind you avast detects issues other av solutions do not even detect and let through unhindered.
Was your software developed with security in mind?
Bashing an av detection solution is not that hard actually.
Coming up with positive critique and a way to report FPs is quite another approach, and in most cases more welcome.
The new avast solution knows a procedure of deep scanning and then one can use the checked software to one’s heart’s content
and also can be guaranteed the software is not PUP and free of junkware, adware etc.
