White Screen Virus

I have what I believe to be the white screen virus on my pc. It flashed up that we needed to pay the FBI, then the screen went white. Now, upon login, the screen goes white. This happened several months ago, but I am just now trying to deal with it. I have Vista and am running Avast Premier. I started up with the command prompt and tried to restore. All the restore points were system restore points in April. I took it to the earliest one, but it didn’t help. Please help!

  1. Boot into safe mode with networking options enabled
  2. Make sure Avast is up-to-date and run a full scan with it. Have it fix everything it finds.
  3. Reboot into safe mode with networking options enabled
  4. Run Malwarebytes
  5. Reboot

Problem should be solved.

I started up with safe mode with networking. I got a black screen with “safe mode” in the corners. About 5 seconds the computer rebooted. Now, I’m at the login screen again = but without a keyboard. Any other suggestions?

Try it again. If you are able to get into safe mode: start > run > shutdown -s
See if it still reboots. If not, do as I suggested.

If you cannot do this, you can try a in-place-repair of the OS
or
you can boot from a live cd and run the scans from there.

Or… Get MBAM on a memory stick and boot into Safemode w/ command prompt. When there type explorer.exe. After that get MBAM going and delete anything it finds. Then post those logs

Hi there what version of windows are you running ? Is it 32 or 64bit ?
Do you have a windows CD or access to a USB where we can download the recovery console to ?
