hello,I’m a chinese user
because avast! home edition is free,I’d like use it ,and so do many other Chinese users
from last year,I heard that the 5.0 version would be released soon ,but one year have passed,it is still no tendency to release a new version ,and hope Administrator give an official answer.
by the way,will the new version be free to home,and will it contain a firewall??
The official answer is October, 2009.
We will have a beta period before (probably, August and September).
The antivirus part will be free and have a paid version.
The firewall (suite: antivirus + firewall) will be only released as a paid version, i.e., we won’t have a free firewall.

Just a question, what’s the reason for the firewall not to be free for home users? That makes IMHO much less sense than giving out free antivirus. There are more free firewalls than free antiviruses and, more importantly, the free firewalls are better than any paid alternative. So what’s the point, it’s not like you can persuade people to pay for something they can get for free already?

Because it will be part of a suite and I don’t know ant free security suites, those already using the free version of avast already have a firewall. There are many people that prefer suites (not me) as they either don’t want to go searching for the best of bread in all the different elements contained in a suite, or they don’t have the time or knowledge to do that.
They are looking for a one stop shop style of experience and they are the target market I believe. Lets not loose sight of the fact that Alwil have to make money to be able to provide the free AV, etc. etc. everything can’t be free.
I think that the Microsoft’s firewall or other free firewall (comodo firewall,pc tool firewall and ect )is enough to ordinary users ,it isnt necessary to pay for a firewall. ;D

Also Tech didnt mentioned. I hope im allowed to say it but its will also contain anti-spam with the firewall. I also did see you say it in a current topic on the public Tech. For sure you guy will love it just be patient and wait to see this surprise that they reserved for the public. ;D

No to be off topic but its a topic for talk about Avast! 5 for sure if u wanna talk turkish its up to you but we will to understand what you said so yeah they should write in English but for sure they can talk with each other without annoying us.

the new Avast! still have the need to activate every 12/14 months?
Because its a little anoing to have it expired, IMHO it should renew the key automaticaly, like Avira.
I`m not comparin the two of them, but this functionality is a lot better in Avira.

Not really an answer but I strongly expect that there will be a free version of avast! 5 that is activated and/or has its ongoing viability monitored in a more new-user-friendly manner than the current 14-month registration cycle.
What would be the cost of avast 5 in INDIA
