When I use java sites on firefox, it hasn’t worked for the last 10 days, yet java has been on my computer since I had it with no probs, (I have vista ultimate 32) and still works on IE. Tried everything I can think of.
Thanks for answering! There was a firefox update that day and so I think it is a compatibility issue but the computer seems to think it is all installed and running ok. I am wary of uninstallin incase I then lose it completely from IE as well, and I need it for my work. Has anyone else had this problem?
One time when I updated Java, Java in Opera somehow became disabled. I had virtually the same problems as you. Java worked in IE & FF but not Opera. I simply enabled Java in Opera> Tools> Quick Preferences> Enable Java.
Might be helpful IF you went to www.javatester.org/version.html
and told us WHAT is says under "The version and vendor from the JRE" !?
The "Method 4" Info may be useful to you !?
Thanks again. Tried all that. I have to admit defeat on this. I have spent hours days even a week gone round in circles, blown one too many fuses - and got nowhere. I went to firefox online, tried download and all it would do was test my computer and took me back to the uninstall/install, which I have done before.
It’s Java 6 update 3. The latest. It works on IE and says all is fine on my computer; so I will stick with what I have. Time to get on with life!
Once you have it, close all browser and uninstall the previous version 6_3 using the add remove programs. I would suggest you reboot at that point though I’m not sure this is absolutely necessary, now install the update you downloaded (again ensure browsers are closed.
It may be time to reinstall firefox or create a new profile and don’t add any extensions other than security ones, like NoScript, CookieSafe,Safe Download, DrWeb link checker, etc. until you get JAVA enabled. Then add your more popular extensions one at a time and see if when FF JAVA breaks.
# Bug 400467 - Windows Vista users will get “Java not found” or “Java not working” errors when trying to load Java applets after updating. To fix this, users can right-click the Firefox icon and “Run as administrator”, then browse to a page with a Java applet — doing this once will fix the problem and permanently restore Java functionality.
Thanks guys as ever the avast team find the answer. But for me my firefox wouldn’t update after 2.0.0.7; so in the end I didn’t uninstall firefox, just over-rode it with a new install (by then 2.0.0.11 and it is now working fine. Thanks again to all who helped.
