Whoz Adware.ShopperReports?

I recently scanned my system with MBAM, and sweet mother of a spoostlefish was found (screeny below). What is that little roach and where could it come from? This system is shared with other fellow exterminators so roaches like to crawl in when they go trough weird doors. Also, the mighty sword of Avast didn’t smite it.

Here’s some info on Adware.Shopperreports:

Run MBAM again and let it remove them.

And ThreatExpert say it is a PUP

Threat Category Description :
A potentially unwanted adware program designed to deliver various advertisements to the users’ systems

So if PUP scan in avast is not on, then it is not detected i guess

Recovery:

Adware:Win32/ZangoShoppingreports may place an uninstaller entry in “Add or Remove Programs” in Control Panel. If an uninstaller is not available or if you do not want to use the uninstaller that is provided, use Microsoft Windows Defender, Microsoft Security Essentials, the Windows Live safety scanner, or another up-to-date scanning and removal tool to detect and remove ZangoShoppingreports and other potentially unwanted software from your computer. For more information, see http://www.microsoft.com/protect/products/computer/default.mspx.

This sort of thing generally comes from your having accepted something to make your browsing/shopping experience easier, usually in the form of a toolbar.

There are many such things out there get the cheapest deals, something to help searching out the best shopping deals, etc. etc. Some come linked to free software install it get the toolbar behind the scenes.

None of the above are truly free as they pay for themselves by gathering (usually anonymous) marketing data which is sold or to deliver ads based on your search/browser activity, etc.

I don’t consider them to be a major issue, especially if you have invited it into the premises, but frequently they come in the backdoor with other free software.
