Why are there so many avast processes in my windows 10 task manager? Is this normal? I installed avast 2025 free on a laptop with an intel 3rd generation i3 cpu, 8gb ram, 512gb ssd, and win10 ltsc.
I saw that these avast processes frequently use the CPU (5~20%), and sometimes the installer process uses the CPU (20~30%). Is this normal?
It seems to take up a lot of resources, but it’s still much better than Windows Defender.
For process number, it’s normal. Upper 4 may be UI process (you know Google Chrome has so many processes; Avast UI uses Chromium technology for it’s backend), processes with gear icon are services supporting different functions.
For CPU, as it’s always scanning files and network traffic, sometimes scanning would consume some degree of CPU time, like downloading large files from the Internet.
You’re saying you’re using 3rd generation laptop Core-i3 processor; that means it’s 2core/4thread processor. 20-30% is equal to 1core/thread and it’s natural to use certain amount of CPU during definition updates (a few times in a day, maybe within a minute).
If it’s constant at 25% or more, then it’s a bit different though.
