WHY Avast SafeZone Browser is installed WITHOUT MY AUTORIZATION

No it is not the same.
Malware is harmful, the SafeZone Browser is not.

You all are welcome. Turned on my PC to this little unwanted gem. I think its about time for me to find a new Anti-virus. Bye Avast which I’ve used both paid and free for the last 5 years.

I don’t care what excuse you try to use, Spyware/Malware does the same thing; installs unwanted software… So yeah, it is the same. I’ll be moving on to antivirus software that doesn’t do that.

You installed it without my knowledge and no choice, when I rebooted. Regardless of your EULA that most people don’t read, and although I MIGHT have given passive permission when I installed your program, this is deceptive and I did NOT tell my computer to install additional software YOU DID. This is outrageously deceptive and this kind of behavior by software makers should be against the law.

I didn’t install anything on your system.
avast did and they are allowed to.
The SafeZone browser is a update.

Yes, they could and should have announced it upfront.
They also could have showed a message after installing that it was installed with some information about it.
Fact is they didn’t and it can’t be undone.
Learn to live with it.

Eddy, with all due respect, many users will NOT just live with it.

They will abandon avast.

The concept of an Anti-Virus program installing a new browser without any permission is not acceptable. Period.

Never mind the EULA. This was a huge mistake on the part of avast.

This is the worst kind of violation you can do to me. I want uninstall instructions now!!! If you would allow it this would be voiced in private but you don’t even have the guts to let me send you a personal message. I have used Avast for a lot of years. I recommend it to a lot of people. I’m about to take my business elsewhere. Do not remove it without my permission. If you choose to root around in my computer I will remove your ability to ‘protect’ me.

  1. See: https://www.avast.com/faq.php?article=AVKB96#artTitle
  2. Contact support: https://support.avast.com/support/tickets/new
  1. They were in Reply #9 above.

  2. You don’t say who you are addressing - but I will take a wild guess - given that I have requested no support PMs.

I’m an avast user just like yourself and a volunteer helper on the forums (like many other respondents). I’m not an avast employee.

I agree with poster Harry0001 100%

You wrote this often, Eddy. And it’s always wrong.

Nobody expects a totally new program like a browser when updating his security software.

Maybe SafeZone Browser is a helpful program, maybe not. I just begin to play with it. And it doesn’t work as it should. FAQ “SafeZone browser … is automatically opened in a Shielded window to prevent any threats from reaching your browser or PC” is wrong, at least for MY banking accounts. Avast shout alter this text and tell people that only known banks are protected.

But this remains: The company whose virus security software I must trust does something to my computer without my knowledge. And so without any authorization. And this is NOT a legal problem, so let us better talk about the facts:

I must trust Avast. I must be certain that everything they do deep inside my operating system helps my against malware, nothing else. And I must be certain that nothing else changes without my knowledge. And it is no wonder that some users discuss to change their virus software.

In the past Avast had troubles with unwanted advertising in the free version. That was nothing compared to that what’s going on here now.
I hope that this company finally begins to understand their users, paying as well as free users.

I like how they said they would stop pushing this with definition updates 2 months ago and yet today I see it installed itself without any prompt at all. Pretty malwarish if you ask me, even if it’s good software. Installing it in an update sneakily and not asking is pretty scummy. I really like avast and have for years but this has me considering installing a new antivirus now. :-\
