id like to edit my profile and put a avatar up but i cant seem to be able to do it…any clue as to why??

Newbies can’t do that. It’s a protection against signature spam.
thats kinda stupid in my opinion. ive never been on a fourm that i couldnt edit my own profile.
but oh well…guess ill just have to wait.
Not stupid in the least the reason was signature spamming to offensive sites, etc. and those responsible for administering the site had to take action.
These same cretins were also spamming the PM system which is also part of the restriction. People were receiving offensive p-o-r-n-o-g-r-a-p-h-y so the decision wasn’t one taken lightly. Unfortunately their actions have an impact on legitimate forum members.
For a period of time no one could use the PM function but the bar was lowered to restrict only new members.
Spam is stupid, not avast forum policy 
All forums have rules even mine.
It’s one of the things you have to abide by to be a good neighbor. 
So what do you have to do to not be a newbie anymore?
What you are doing regularly contribute to the forums and when you get to the ripe old age of 20 posts you won’t be a newbie any more but a Jr Member ;D
Unfortunately it has no resemblance to your IT experience, just the avast forums.
