why does avast install new version every time I boot up?
Is it really installing a new version every time? It seems to delay the boot up significantly.

Does it say it’s installing a new version, or is it maybe updating the database? I know mine updates the database at least once a day, if not more often, and that sometimes happens shortly have I boot up.

Short answer it doesn’t.

What makes you think it is (messages/warnings/errors, etc.) ?

avast! checks for VPS (and Program) updates when you first connect to the internet (for many on broadband this will be shortly after boot as it connects automatically) and every 4 hours if you remain connected.

If a VPS update is available by default it will be downloaded automatically, this is an incremental update so is likely to be very small KBs rather than MBs and it will notify that it has updated.

If a program update is available by default it will ‘Ask,’ since program updates are likely to be larger you wouldn’t want that to happen automatically when you might be in the middle of something.

thank you for the information. It seems all is well then. 8)

No problem, glad I could help.
