Why does my program list show both free versions 6 & 8?

My list of installed programs shows Avast (free version) twice:

  • Avast 6

  • Avast 8

Do I need to keep them both?
Can I uninstall 6 without losing my logs, updates, quarantines etc and still have Avast work?

There really should only be one avast installation.

I don’t know how you have two reported versions - exactly what is reporting both versions (programs and features, add remove programs, etc.) ?

When installing avast 8, did you chose a different hard disk location, not the default location - C:\Program Files\AVAST Software\Avast ?

You have two registered records in of both old and new avast!. I would suggest not to uninstall avast! 6 because it would also corrupt new installation. I recommend to leave it behind, we can gracefully address this issue in next releases.
