Why is Avast AV not listed as a good AV product anywhere?

Hello all,

I was told about Avast by someone. In conducting my due diligence, I am curious as to (If avast has been around for so long) why is it not listed ANYWHERE as a top 10 antivirus product. The best I could find was #25 on a top 30 list. That’s pretty sad. If I had to hire an employee and he was #25 on any list, I wouldn’t do it. Why should I “hire” the avast team to protect my interest i such an important issue as data protection. In business I deal only with companies that are ranked in the top tier of their field. I searched back some years and can’t find much reference to the quality of the product. How big is Avast software. Are they a large company (100 Employees or more) in a large building or are they a few guys in the basement of their mothers house? I am not trying to begin a flame, but these are questions I have with any company. I wouldn’t hire a construction company that is a guy and a truck to build my office buildings? I would at least conduct a due diligence to ensure they have the resources to complete the task. Do your best to “sell” me the product. Facts only please - not emotion. Do any fortune 500 companies use any Avast products?

TIA

A link to that site please?
Probably you need to pay to be at this list.
Would you trust in such list? I won’t

That’s probably why only around 140 million users trust avast! ;D

I’d suggest investigating some more serious sources of information, such as:

http://www.av-test.org/
http://www.av-comparatives.org/
http://www.virusbtn.com/index
http://www.avast.com/awards-certifications
http://www.techsupportalert.com/best-free-anti-virus-software.htm

Wrt the second part of your “question”:

http://www.avast.com/about
http://www.avast.com/references

Well I don’t know where you are looking, so I can’t say ?
As for Top AV top in what ?

Looking at some of the popular download sites will show the sort of activity and popularity of various AVs.

http://download.cnet.com/Avast-Free-Antivirus/3000-2239_4-10019223.html

Currently avast has over 140 million users so they must have found something that attracted them. For the most part many find avast through word of mouth from other avast users. Many coming from other AVs to avast find a major difference.

Are you looking in the wrong places or just trolling?

Rankings are bogus, the only way to know if something or someone is worth a darn is to try or sit down face to face with that person and test. That is sad if you only deal with companies based on some bogus rankings, you are missing out on some quality people by doing this.

Try Avast yourself and quit reading bogus crap, I’m sure once you try it you will love it, and them maybe someday you will call a #500 ranked company and deal with some great employees as well!

Took me all of 3 seconds to find this about avast! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Avast! so maybe a little more “due diligence” on your part is required.

12 more seconds http://www.avast.com/about

I don’t know about Fortune 500 companies… but most people in my circle of friends use the free versions of Avast…
I am a “computer self taught grandmother” and have been using Avast for a number of years, starting with the plain free version, which I upgraded to the paid one, and ultimately to the new Internet Security version… I loved all of them…

I have also used and loathed those that are at the top ten lists, as they are nothing but bloatware!.
i would recommend, if it is possible for you, that you try it for yourself. Sometimes those reviewers are nothing else than paid company employees

This dude is so funny. He clearly has no research skills. Just put the words “avast” and “test” and see what pops up. Where does this guy do his research, playboy? Certainly they do have good articles but indeed, they never feature computer security products.

The best part is that, he turns to the forums and asks about business stuff. Shouldn’t he send an email to avast with his concerns ? Ask them about their portfolio, make them a business proposition, negotiate etc. but do it with the right people, which is not the community that focuses mainly on providing support for the Avast Free product.

Actually there was a big story with the description of Avast on CNET.COM before the new Avast 6 came out…Rated top notch by the CNET Staff…They also rated the new Alvira and AVG…and both of those didn’t get as promising rates as Avast did…Cnet is one of the biggest companies for rating and testing, ordering, downloading software, I always download from there when I need to …but my main reason for downloading there is because I like to read the “USERS RATINGS AND COMMENTS” And I usually look at the negative comments, to make my decision…
To Check on Avast User Ratings …Cnet.com > Downloads > Avast…

;D
