Like Avira. If you check AV-C or AV-Test you will see that Avira crushes Avast over the year. I don’t get it because Avira is just using signatures and a cloud while Avast! is using DeepScreen, Cloud and Signatures.
Tests aren’t what counts. Real world experience is what matters.
In my case that’s meant 11 years of uninterrupted solid protection
without bringing my system to it’s knees.
Though we have to admit that certain products show excellent performance in both, tests and real-world. Where avast!'s for some reason doesn’t seem to reflect that in tests but still does in real world scenarios. I just wish it would also in tests so you can show some proven “telemetry” to the users and not just what your experience was.
The “real world” Bob was writing about is by personal use.
I’m the same way, the only real tests that matter to me is
my personal “real world” protection. 8)
100% correct. My computer doesn’t rely on someone’s lab test results but how safe it actually stays
while I use it in real life situation. Installing new programs, working on social media sites, checking my emails,
reading and writing on various blogs and forums, watching, producing and uploading Videos etc.
Those are real world scenarios.
Under these conditions, Avast has done an outstanding job.
That’s what I’m interested in and why I still use the product.
Avast is the best…I’ve used them all.
I agree and would like to see them rank higher in these tests but I also know it is not the true story…the fact I have not had a Virus on over three years tells me the story. I use Avast + MalwareBytes Pro & CryptoPrevent…to me a sold approach/balance of protection versus complexity.
I suggest you also add WinPatrol to that mix.
(If your interested in the Pro version, I can supply you with the same 50% discount available to those that attend my presentations.)
Another one who goes by what I see… Currently I use Avast and cryptoprevent, nothing else. Despite the dark and murky corners of the internet that I travel to in my research I have never had an unintentional infection since I started using Avast way back with v4.2
Well there are interesting comments as I also, while using Avast have had no successful attacks or been infected.
Unfortunately, I think a huge majority of the market do take these tests into consideration before purchasing.
We here, that have used Avast for years and have not been caught with our pants down, can attest to it’s solid security however in the bigger picture that’s not going to reach many buyers.
however in the bigger picture that's not going to reach many buyers.
Very true. A perfect reason why Avast needs to continue the excellent protection
it has provided it's customers and additionally strive to achieve a perfect or near perfect test score
from those that publish test scores.
Scoring high marks on both fronts is the only way to continue to grow a user base which is the bread and butter of any company.
Does not happen a lot but I find MBAM Pro catches a couple items a year that Avast does not.
I’m not a risky type user but sometimes things route me places that MBAM catches.
I’ll have to do some research on WnPatrol that @bob3160 suggests but I hesitate to have too much on my PCs…frankly becomes hard to manage. However, I’ll take the suggestion and look into it…thx.
To those of you that only use Avast and can never see anything wrong. If Avast is the only AV you have used in years how do you know you are not infected? Just because Avast didn’t catch something that piece of malware might still be on your computer and you would never know it. AV tests should and do mean something to me as well as other PC users. Avast has been slipping in those tests. You might be infected and have no idea because you have relied on a product that is continually going down hill.
Personally, because I test all the tools that I use for malware removal on my own system before I offer them for someone else to use and also to create screenshots. That includes DrWebb, Kaspersky, TDSSKiller, combofix, AVZ et al and none have detected anything So in my humble opinion I believe that I can be confident
Anyway, AV-Comparatives is a serious company and the tests are rational and follow a technical procedure.
If we say we got AV-Comparatives awards (see blog, for instance) a lot of times, we should perform good in these tests.
I understand if we fail in one. Although it would be good to see a technical (and official) information about it.
I won’t bash the tests. By the way, a very good (technical and independent) way to decide about your antivirus.
For over 15 years I have been building and repairing both my own pc’s, and have done the same for many friends. I have tried both the paid for AV’s and the free ones and Avast always does it for me. I do not use synthetic tests, I always use real world tests… yes I do scan with other applications occasionally, and I always recommend an ad-ware scanner ( despite the built in Microsoft protection) but I also warn against too many scanners as they often are at odds with each other. For me Avast surpasses many others and I will continue to use, recommend, and install on others systems.
Yes good point about “scan with other applications occasionally”.
imho,Always a prudent part of Security Knowledgeable protocol.
I make a point of scanning with 2 other online scanners other then the AV I’m running once a week.
