My internet has been going slowly lately.
I average 160kbs, but now its always around 40kbs. Im not capped or anything but why the sudden slowness?

Do you use LAN?
Or something else?
rebooting your modem/router might help.
[font=Segoe UI]Reason(s) may be:
1 You have a P2P application installed that runs on startup.
2 Malware activity
3 Internet Traffic
I use WLAN (I think buts it wireless)
ill try a reboot. And my mum has Bit torrent setup on her comp but she never uses it at all.
What firewall are you using?
Outpost & Sunbelt firewalls drastically slowdown my internet. >:(
I think I only have avast on
Better turn on (or install) a firewall then, immediately if not sooner.
Have you moved your laptop or computer?
If the distance is farer than before then the speed will be lower!
Or maybe there is lots of people using a LAN service same to you but they can also not use the WLAN!
This will cause a sort of traffic like L’arc just said!
Well this is on my desktop so that hasnt moved. And the rest of the family should be doing anything other than playing zuma on the computer.
Ok I take it Avast doesnt have a firewall then but Windows Firewall is on, Although I doubt how good it is
Windows (XP SP1+) firewall is excellent, but protects inbound only, which leaves a significant security void.
Windows Vista has two-way functionality, but from what I understand can be difficult to set the outbound control easily.
Windows 7 & Vista Firewall Control makes outbound easy to use.
I use the free version on my Vista 64bit laptop.
I was planning to switch to Online Armor when their 64bit version is released, but I don’t know if I will as I’ve gotten to really like Windows 7 & Vista Firewall Control.
I do use Online Armor on my XPsp3 machine & am very pleased with it.
Hi Husk!!
In addition to all of the suggestions already offered,
Have you checked with you Internet Service Provider?
I cant tell you how many times I went “Eliminate with Extreme Prejudice”,
on programs on my system, only to find my slowdown was the product of
a “bottleneck” on the ISP side.
If there have been no major changes on my system,or overt signs of
infection, that is now my first area to suspect.
