Why is this Forum so SLOW

I’ve noticed that lately the Alwil forum has become extremely slow.
It’s getting very time consuming to help people because every access to the board takes a long time.
Hopefully some from Alwil has an answer to this problem.
I have highspeed access and I’m having problems. I can imagine what those with dialup access must be going thru.

I’ve noticed the same fact - extremely slow. At this time there is delivery deadline not response time >:(
Quick regards
housi

It’s the same thing for me ,since about 15 days.

ditto… for over a week now… it hangs… times out… usually i just give up

Same here… unbelievable slow. And I am on ADSL, very fast connection. No problems with other forums or any other web sites. Same thing happening if I try to visit these forums from my neighbour’s PC, and he has Hi-Speed Cable connection.

Maybe Alwil is doing something regarding new forums… because I remember, they mentioned something regarding getting new forum engine around Christmas… yeepee !

It also might be that avast is getting more popular.

There are indeed more and more people who have heard/are using Avast, but that is not the reason why the board has problems as you can see at the “Forum History (using forum time offset)” section in the stats. Visitor, posts etc stays about the same. So there is no huge increase of traffic to the board all of a sudden.

Painfully slow here in the U.K. also, started about 5 days ago for me.

Broadband cable connection and haven’t noticed any difficulties with posting to the other forums I use.

Latest error message below

Description: Too much time has passed without sending any data for

The forums are most likely hosted on the same server as the main avast site. It may not be busier here, but the main site might be getting more traffic.

Edited trace returns the results below for me in the U.K.

I’m almost 100% sure this is true… the only possible explanation at this point.

Same problem for me. I am on cable. I sometimes get a timeout error using my particular browser. Have been noticing this for almost a week now. Thought it was just me but guess not.

Neal
That’s what I thought at first too till I started getting some IM’s from quite a few users.
That’s why I posted this in the first place. It’s hard to help and hard to ask questions if you can’t communicate.

Bob, I agree. You at least had an advantage over me. I never received any IMS from anyone concerning the slow throughput here. Of course I also didn’t IM anyone from my end asking about it. Good thing you posted something about it. Maybe someone with the power to either make a change or let us know something will post something here to let us know what’s going on. I suspect that the servers are just probably overloaded or they are having some sort of problem?

As a ‘newbie’ I thought I’d just say that the problem I had a few hours ago has been resolved thnx to the help of members here in the Forum. I just want to say BIG THNX to all who helped me from going ‘nuts’ LOL. Have a great evening & I’ll B back often. Great job folks…thnx!!

thank you thank you thank you!

i’m on cable… feels like a 14.4 modem ::slight_smile:

I just did a trace. the results are attached. Hopefully it will help someone from Alwil get to the bottom of this cause it’s not getting any better.

Hi all,

the above mentioned server www.alwil.com is not ours (it belongs to the company ALWIL Trade which is our main distributor in Czech Republic). Our main domain is www.avast.com ;).

Our network of servers is based mostly in Texas, USA and is hosted by several providers. Currently we have 14 servers (you can check the list in the file servers.def in avast4\setup directory) which all serve for the web content, downloads and iAVS updates. One of them hosts also this forum (forum.avast.com). Our webs have about 70 000 unique visitors and 300 000 pageviews per day right now.

I personally do not have any problems with the forum speed (neither from work nor from home). The only slowdown can occur just in the moment when the new iAVS update is released (and during following four hours) - because the servers are under quite heavy load then ;D, but even in this moment I never receive a timeout??

Hope this helps

Pavel

I must say I do notice the problems (from work), for about 2 days.
It works nice and fast for a minute or two, and then gets slow for another while…
